I've had the pleasure to share my thoughts about how to generate more pipeline in 2024, within the latest edition of Perspectives Journal by Atscale. My specific take : "the recent tendency that we observe is B2B buyers are demonstrating the same behaviours as B2C buyers. They do a lot of research before going for a product, and we tend to contact them thinking that they don’t know much about our product and about the competition, which is a mistake". I invite you to read the full edition to discover point of views and insights from 25 outstanding authors. It's always interesting to read and learn from different people in a wide variety of industries and roles. In the past two years, the world of VC imploded: many funds are about to die (some have already ‘merged’ or ‘been acquired’, hint: it’s ugly) and others have no future. As always, the media and VC industry are avoiding that topic and the implications it has to founders. And there are several, critical to fatal, consequences for founders, yet nobody’s warning them. Well, we are. And this is precisely the theme of our TechBBQ talk next week. Using hard data (not 'opinions') we'll show you what happened, why it’s a huge deal, explain how it impacts you (founders), and how you must adapt to the new reality. We then provide you with the playbook on how to select investors and avoid time-wasters, how to approach relevant investors given the new environment, and what you can, and should, do to secure funding on your own good terms. We'll show you the common mistakes you make and the pitfalls you're about to face when fundraising. The session ends with an open mic Q&A so that you can discuss your own plans and process. Warning: like all things we do, it's direct, no-BS, practical and actionable. Expect some very direct feedback, reality checks and other harsh truths. Are you going to be in Copenhagen? Make sure to join us. Fundraising Bootcamp at TechBBQ 🗓️Sep 11, 04:00 PM - 04:40 PM 📍Green Garden Tent

While Web Summit itself was quite the overwhelming happening, it was the side events that truly brought home the power of meaningful connections. A highlight was def the Impact Shakers & Startup Guide Summit at the incredible Casa do Impacto, where I had the privilege of hosting the pitch competition in partnership with Smooth Sailing. Imagine pitching sessions in a beautiful convent right in the city, with an incredible church setting as our surrounding. But it wasn't just the venue that left an impression; the speakers did too. In a twist from the usual rallying talk to disrupt, we were challenged to pause and rethink our approach. Carlos Alvarez Pereira of The Club of Rome and Bayo Akomolafe of The Emergence Network encouraged us to slow down and ask tough questions, like whether our well-intentioned solutions might actually feed the problems we aim to solve. They urged us to move beyond seeing ourselves as the standard entrepreneurial superheroes that disrupt the existing world for the better and to consider deeper, structural shifts. As entrepreneurs, are we truly challenging the financial systems around us, or are we just chasing financial extraction under a different disguise? Food for thought. A huge thank you to Yonca Braeckman, Lucija Matic, and Sissel Hansen for making this happen. It was wonderful meeting new people like Juan Francisco Rivas, Maria Gabriela Rivas Angulo & Otitooluwa Dosumu, PhD, and reconnecting with Enya and Hannes. Here’s to slowing down, re-evaluating, and self-reflecting in a world that often pushes us to move too fast.

Do you know why some businesses last for centuries while others struggle to get past the startup stage? Truth is long-lasting businesses are built differently from those that come and go like a breeze. Here's what I mean: Using a brick and mortar building as context, two factors are crucial to the longevity of a building. One is the foundation on which it was built, and the other is the materials used. For a business, these would be the foundation or philosophy powering its vision and mission, and the culture powering its internal and external operations. What that means, simply, is that "A business can only stand the test of time and have good success when it's built on a solid foundation—philosophy, and culture." At Ennovate Lab, we're walking the talk—transforming the landscape of our host community and shaping the culture and lived experiences of the people living in it. We think this should be commonplace for all businesses. So we are hosting an Open House event where our CEO, Jesudamilare Adesegun-David reveals the foundational concepts behind the building of Ennovate lab so you can understand (and build) the philosophies that power great businesses. (see details in image). If you're building a (great) business, or nursing the idea of one. This event is for you. Register here: https://bit.ly/eLab_OH1 Fun thing is preparations have been for anyone to join virtually from anywhere (though it's best you attend physically, if you know what I mean). You don't want to miss this. Register now.
