Weill Family Foundation Establishes the Weill Cancer Hub East with $50 Million Gift 👉 A $50 million gift from the WEILL FAMILY FOUNDATION, led by Joan and Sanford I. Weill, establishes the Weill Cancer Hub East, a cross-institutional collaboration focused on transforming cancer treatment. 👉 The initiative brings together top-tier scientists from Princeton University, The Rockefeller University, Weill Cornell Medicine, and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Cancer Research to explore how nutrition, metabolism, and the microbiome influence cancer immunotherapy outcomes. 👉 Combined with matched philanthropy from the partner institutions, the total funding will exceed $125 million. 👉 The hub will investigate: ✅ The role of diet, gut microbes, and metabolic pathways in enhancing immunotherapy. ✅ Potential cancer treatment impacts of GLP-1 agonists, a class of anti-diabetes and anti-obesity drugs. ✅ How metabolomics, AI, and computational biology can reprogram the tumor microenvironment. 👉 Spearheaded by scientific leads Dr. Joshua Rabinowitz (Princeton & Ludwig), Dr. Sohail Tavazoie (Rockefeller), and Dr. Jedd Wolchok (Weill Cornell), the hub will offer seed funding for collaborative projects and launch clinical trials. 👉 A scientific steering committee and a leadership committee including members from all four institutions and the Weill Family Foundation will guide strategy and research direction. 👉 The Weill Cancer Hub East follows the successful model of the Weill Neurohub (2019), reaffirming the Weill family's philanthropic commitment to interdisciplinary biomedical innovation. 👉 Dr. Robert A. Harrington (Weill Cornell), Dr. Richard Lifton (Rockefeller), Dr. Chi Van Dang (Ludwig Institute), and Dr. Christopher Eisgruber (Princeton) praised the initiative as a model of visionary collaboration poised to accelerate scientific breakthroughs.
