Your Career Doesn’t Have to Fit in a Box!
Earlier today, while at the bank, the attendant casually asked, “I see you’re a pharmacist. Which hospital do you work at?”
I paused and smiled because, let’s face it, many people still assume pharmacists work only in hospitals or retail pharmacies, but let me tell you this: those days are long gone.
The role of a pharmacist has evolved, and so has the definition of career growth. In my journey, for instance: I started my career in a commercial role as a Medical Representative—a path that most would expect to lead to a Key Account Manager, Sales Manager, or Country Manager.
Instead, I pivoted into Regulatory Affairs, building expertise in that area over the years. And today? I’m in the International Development space where I can apply my diverse experiences to create impact.
Here’s the lesson: Career growth isn’t always a straight line. You don’t have to follow the same path just because that’s how it’s always been done. Your career can twist, turn, and even leap into unexpected territories—and that’s where the magic happens.
To anyone feeling stuck in a box: You’re not defined by your degree or your first job title. The possibilities are endless when you’re willing to explore, take risks, and adapt. So, let’s stop putting careers in boxes and start embracing the limitless potential of growth in every direction.
