We are pleased to welcome Nicole McMahon as the new Chief of Impact & Innovation at Diabetes Australia. Nicole has a background as a research scientist in HIV gene therapy and autoimmune diseases and in science communication. She has spent the majority of her career as an executive, driving outcomes in ICT, health and government. Based in Canberra, she is passionate about health reform, changing the national conversation and delivering real outcomes. “I am thrilled to join an organisation with such a clear purpose, and the potential to make a real and lasting impact. I have an incredible team of passionate individuals driving engagement, strategy, advocacy, innovation and research outcomes. We are committed to making a difference for those living with, and at risk of, diabetes." “Not all diabetes is preventable - and it is important that we begin to address the stigma. However, 58 per cent of type 2 diabetes is preventable. There is a lot we can do to reduce diabetes related complications. By raising awareness, and through community education, we can improve the health and wellbeing of millions of Australians, and at the same time reduce the burden of the condition on our healthcare system.” We look forward to Nicole's leadership as we collectively strive towards our shared value of reducing the impact of diabetes on all Australians living with, or at risk of diabetes.
