Department of Transport and Planning’s Post

As the saying goes, one man’s retired V/Line train is another man’s freight hauler. With V/Line’s classic fleet making way for more modern VLocity trains, 10 N-Class locomotives have been leased to Southern Shorthaul Railroad Pty Ltd. to help meet the growing demand for grain and intermodal freight transport. Adding more locomotives to the freight network will boost capacity, improve efficiency, and enable longer freight services across the network.

Great to find secondary uses of passenger locos that support economic growth through transporting valuable commodities such as grain for export markets

Would you please advise on what rail routes in Victoria the growing demand is realising. It would be useful to understand this growing demand you speak of.

Or as the Department’s Inclusion Policy and corporate writing guide goes … One person’s retired V/Line train is another person’s freight hauler. In such a male dominated industry, I for one would like to see more inclusive language from Government. Language is a simple and easy thing we can all do to help everyone see themselves in the industry … be it an aspiration to become a train driver, or the CEO of a rail freight company.
