We made it! Tax season is officially over. Upon completion of my Tax internship at Piaker & Lyons I wanted to reflect a bit on my key takeaways. Don’t be afraid to speak up and ask questions! In any internship experience you are expected to be new to the material and ready to learn. This process will enable you to form a deeper understanding of the concepts you’re working on. If completing an internship during the semester, time management will be key to your success. Use tools at your disposal to effectively manage your commitments and stay on top of your work! Lastly, use the experience to form lasting relationships with professionals to help guide your future professional aspirations. #TaxIntern

🔍 Which sectors are most likely to offer unpaid and underpaid internships? Our latest research found they are most prominent in real estate, with 64% of employers offering them in the sector. Construction (54%), IT/telecoms (46%), legal (46%), and finance and accounting (45%) are also high. Howdy Gators, We want to take a moment to celebrate and congratulate Nicole Cox for securing an internship with PKF Texas, where she'll be helping with their tax season for 2025! 🎉 Nicole is an exceptional student at UHD, gaining valuable experience in the tax field as she balances her academic commitments. Nicole's journey is especially inspiring because, at 30, she's embarking on a second career. "Teaching didn't work out quite well for me, but there's always time to invest in yourself and find a different path for your future." We asked her how she landed this amazing internship and what advice she has for our fellow Gators—here's what she had to say:👇 1. How did you hear about this internship? I found out about this internship through the career center's website. I was looking for a job to get me through the rest of college, and I applied for every internship. I could find it on your website. 2. What's your major and class classification? I am getting a bachelor's in accounting. I am a senior at the University of Houston downtown. 3. Any advice you could give for others seeking for internships? Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and apply to anything and everything you can think of that would apply to your major. You never know what could be helpful to you and your major and what could benefit you and your future career.
