Questions for small museum professionals: 1. What board level committee has oversight of your Visitors Center operations and visitor experience? 2. Feedback on QSEHRA as a health benefit option? Thanks in advance. #smallmuseum #historicsite #visitorexperience #museumlife

Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past. ATTN NASHVILLIANS WHO WANT TO ACTIVELY SHAPE OUR FUTURE… are you also controlling the past?? Are you controlling your present?? If you haven’t already signed up, this is an incredibly powerful way to take this moment in time to directly impact the way we move in the future… to combat the censorship and revisionist history some other (ahem) groups are pushing. Historians know that it’s not just about interrogating the voices we do hear, but also interrogating the cause of absent voices. And asking “If the voice were present, what would it say? How would it impact the story that’s being told?” Too much of history education is already reduced to excerpts and quotes taken out of context, and truly voices are at real risk of erasure. Come hear their stories before they’re lost to history so that we can impact a more thoughtful, inclusive future. Also Tamyra Gordon MSEd is just really fantastic and you should support her work. 💥

It’s August - officially days away from our Greenwood Seneca and #preservationsocietynashville next Your Legacy Tours event at TRAVELLERS REST HISTORIC HOUSE MUSEUM INC 🖤 If we don’t go back with the goal of reclaiming their names and narrative then we leave them to be erased. Join us on their grounds, the space they occupied and continue to call them into existence. The truth is at risk of extinction. Let us be their storytellers. 📖✊🏽 Link to join below. ⬇️ A few spots left. https://lnkd.in/g_VmHAdy

Question for the #museum & #heritage hiveminds: can you recommend any audience research into the motivations & reactions of visitors to historic houses? There was an excellent study by Cadw (Barriers to visiting heritage sites 2022) and the equally excellent paper by Aileen Peirce ( “It Feels Like You Have Stepped Back in Time” 2020) but other than that I can find next to nothing. #museums #audienceengagement #visitorengagement #visitorexperience #audienceresearch

Always remember to incorporate physical actors / interpreters / guides (or whatever denomination you prefer) in your attractions / destinations / museums / visitor centres / hotels & restaurants / real estate promotions / fairs / cultural delegations / shopping centre or outlet events / embassy events / university student recruitment / university staff recruitment / international trade fairs etc etc etc. They will be your BEST SALES PEOPLE EVER as they sell the dream. If you have been mandated to undertake responsibility for one of the above, it would be difficult to justify doing otherwise in the current environment! From Las Vegas through luxury retail kilometre destinations to the creme de la creme of international universities, palaces and religious institutions, all are ramping up their interpretation staff portfolios in 2024. There is a reason for this! Every Euro / Dollar / Pound spent on these people results in an enormously higher return than what is spent on digital media. The impact made during some of the historic recreation events can be intergenerational and life-changing. Try replicating that with social media! Social media has a role but that role is extremely junior, subsidiary and complementary to real-world reenactment and interpretation. Visitors at all price points are DESPERATE for real-world non-digital interaction! When your investors or their consultants turn up at your attraction to check out what is going on on the ground, their ABSOLUTE NUMBER ONE priority is to check our real world visitor engagement, not digital engagement. Never lose sight of this!

Scaffolding is an art form all of its own
Here's an interesting fact to finish the week... If all the tubes used in the external and internal scaffolding at our Ipswich Museum site were placed end-to-end, they would cover a distance of over 50,000 feet! That is just short of ten miles....or Ipswich to Felixstowe as the crow flies! PEST MANAGEMENT IN MUSEUMS #Insects are responsible for significant damage to #museum_exhibits, #historical_books and #buildings. Different types of insects attack different materials. A few common parasites are found in collections in Europe, but most of them circulate worldwide. AgroSpeCom uses the Integrated Pest Management (#IPM) approach in museums, identifying the most vulnerable #collections, implementing #preventive_measures and #monitoring. An additional part of the IPM strategy is the #training of museum staff on the main #pest_challenges. More information on the Museum's #pest_management can be found here: https://shorturl.at/Ehsha Watch our new #video here: https://shorturl.at/pN49S
