BBA is pleased to highlight the US$40 million grant awarded to our client, Deep Sky, by Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, a climate solutions fund founded by Bill Gates. This is the first grant the organization has awarded to a project in Canada.   The grant supports the construction of the Deep Sky Alpha project in Innisfail, Alberta—a global hub for innovation and commercialization of carbon removal solutions focused on direct air capture (DAC). When it’s commissioned in the spring, the hub will test up to 10 different DAC technologies simultaneously to identify the most effective and scalable solutions for removing CO₂ from the atmosphere.   BBA completed the detailed engineering for the Deep Sky Alpha hub in late 2024 and is now supporting the project’s execution through engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) mode.   Congratulations to Deep Sky!
