On the sidelines of the LegalTechTalk in London! 🚀 Earlier this month, I got the chance to catch some fascinating conversations as the who's who of the legaltech world were in attendance at the LegalTechTalk and the ELSA meetup. Here are some key thoughts that stayed with me: ➡ The interest and uptake of Legaltech is not only growing but it is fast becoming a crowded space! GenAI has been a gamechanger in finally making the much-needed technological tools relevant to the legal service delivery globally. Many startups are joining the fray of developing these products. But staying relevant as a startup in this space is critical. While the market opportunity is growing and the change is here to stay, the startups that build the trust with law-firms and legal departments and offer value-added services to the clients, may just have the winning advantage. ➡ Challenge will also come from the fact that integrating these tools in day-to-day operations and training them with desired level of accuracy will need hands-on work and dedicated time from those within the firms and companies. In an industry such as legal practice, accuracy is key and those who do put in the time and effort will gain a competitive advantage. The LegalAI startups that can offer ways to address this will be in high demand. ➡ While the jobs of the lawyers are set to change massively in the coming years, the lawyers are not going anywhere! New technologies have created newer legal issues and with the amount of regulation that is being brought in to regulate the new technologies, those who are able to stay on the top of their game in understanding both the new regulations and how technology works, will be in high demand! ➡ And lastly, the ones who are changing the game in legaltech are not necessarily the lawyers - it is in fact, those outside of the system - the technologists, the entrepreneurs, the designers and those who see the market opportunity. Legal profession has so far been, for the right reasons and wrong, highly unwilling to let those outside of the system come anywhere close. This might just be set to change. Our LITE Lab is seeing the end of its 5th year since its launch in 2019, with the end of semester under founding executive director Brian W Tang being marked by a growing number of (hopefully satisfied) project partners and students for our LITE Lab: Legal Technology & The Future of the Legal Profession Sandbox! We would like to see our LITE Lab students as agents of change, and the no/low code and GenAI proof-of-concepts they demo-ed that were co-designed to address real industry problem statements with project partners from leading companies and now law firms hopefully demonstrates a promising future direction for legal (and even higher education) education in preparing our future lawyers, allied professionals and leaders with the requisite skillsets and mindsets to lead the requisite changes in our fast evolving world. I am happy to announce that I completed the Legal Service Innovation Course by Law School 2.0   This course allowed me to develop and improve my perspective on legal technology and legal innovation and how to work on such matters with a business -driven focus, and here is how: - making complex business and technology concepts and ideas more accessible and useful for the legal activity. - going deep into problem framing in first place (think about the problem, do not jump into a solution). - focusing on developing and delivering innovative solutions for the identified problems – and these solutions might already exist, and don’t need always to be high-tech. - developing strategies to successfully ensure the rolling out and the adoption of the innovative solutions (avoid returning to the old ways). - making a good and effective use of low-tech tools when developing legal tech solutions, based on data-driven thinking approach, making informed decisions. - considering Generative AI always as a “co-pilot” and not a “pilot” (human control is essential), due to ethical issues that may arise (copyright, personal data protection, output (in)accuracy).   I would like to thank to all the organisers, lecturers and panelists of the #LSICourse for such a great experience.   #LegalTech #LegalInnovation
