Thank you for the first review of my book on leadership and it's a good one from a retired infantry colonel and Vietnam veteran: "The book addresses the key aspects of leadership whether in a military or civilian role. It highlights the fundamental aspects of the key areas of leadership-desire to be a leader, character, sacrifice, leading by example, discipline and team building to name a few areas addressed in the book. It is well worth anyone's time to read, reflect and apply if in a leadership/management role or studying leadership. I wish I had this book for study reference when I was first commissioned as an Army officer, it is that good. I believe every newly promoted soldier going into the non-commissioned or officer ranks be provided a copy or at least the book be put on a recommended reading list. I highly recommend the book!"

As an organizational leader, if you can’t clearly state what your vision is, then your subordinates most assuredly have no idea, and are probably not working to achieve it. What is your WHY? What is all the effort supposed to add up to? Do you know where you are going, why you must get there and can you tell anyone? Without a shared vision to focus on, people develop and protect what is individually important. With vision, leadership decisions begin to make sense, management becomes easier, and employees are more engaged because they understand the WHY. A great summation of how important a clear and well communicated vision is to the effectiveness of any endeavour.

My Leadership Thought for Today This morning I had a random recollection of my time served in the Army as a young 2nd lieutenant taking leadership courses. What the hell did I know about leadership…? Absolutely Nothing! The specific memory was how we were taught that our primary leadership duty was to take care of our fellow platoon members. Now this lesson was aimed at physically taking care of them so they would be ready to follow orders and engage the enemy. How does it apply to me today as a leader not of a fighting force but as a leader of human beings dedicated to a mission we all believe passionately in? Fast forward 50 years and I now know what that leadership lesson back then means to me today and how it translates to working in an organization with over 450 co-workers. True leadership isn't about being in charge; it's about taking care of those in your charge. Taking care of means caring for…and caring for means to genuinely be empathic and mindfully concerned about your co-workers wellbeing- as individuals with lives outside, as well as inside of your business or organization. It’s about using your words and behavior to Care, Inspire, Support, Empower, and watch the extraordinary unfold as individuals do their best to help achieve the promise of your organization or company’s vision and mission. 50 years later- I finally get what that Colonel was teaching me about leadership. It’s not at all about me, it’s about them- those whose lives have been entrusted to me. #EmotionallyIntelligentLeadership Be well, joe

It's easy to get caught up in the negativity on social media, even on LinkedIn. Recently, there has been a trend of criticism towards senior military leaders on this platform. While accountability is important, we must remember that not all leaders are created equal. The majority of leaders are dedicated, honorable, and committed to serving their country and communities. Let's shift the conversation and focus on the positive impact of great leaders. Share stories of leaders who have inspired you, who have made a difference, who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Let's celebrate them and use their examples to inspire future generations of leaders. We cannot allow a few bad apples to spoil the reputation of the entire leadership community. It's time to shift the narrative and focus on the positive impact of great leaders. Here is one such inspiring story: #leadership #inspiration #positivity

Life Changing Leadership: Stories on Military Mindset, Motivation, and Mission-Critical Teamwork reviews are coming in... Read it! It's worth your time. The lessons that come from combat leadership are only available to most of us through the ones who have been there. The book delivers unique insights. Inspiring Stories from Real Military Leaders from All Branches What a timely and thoughtful collection of stories and lessons from current and former military leaders. As a business owner, an employer of veterans, and those who have lived through trauma overseas, many of these stories resonate with what I have learned. I will gift this book to our teammates, who I believe will feel as inspired as I do. Many thanks to this impressive and accomplished ensemble of authors for sharing their wisdom! I loved this book! What a book. Such amazing stories. My favorite was LCDR (Ret) Holly R. Taylor. I admire her journey. If you’ve ever had to pivot, faced unexpected challenges, or just need a reminder that it’s about the journey - you’ll be able to connect with her story, as well as the compelling stories of the other authors. Making lemonade out of lemons is a big deal. All of these authors have done this really well. I congratulate our amazing authors Alejandro Cabrero, Ed.D., Andre Burrell, Ed.D, M.Ed, GRCP-A, Andrea Howard, Breona M., Dr. Derek E. Recently I finished to read Extreme Ownership book. The main idea of this book is that true leadership means taking full responsibility for everything within your domain. Instead of blaming others or external factors, effective leaders own their actions and outcomes. A must-read for anyone looking to enhance their leadership skills and drive real results! It shows many experiences of the Navy SEALs in the Iraq war. Very interesting histories. #Leadership #ExtremeOwnership #Accountability
