The difference between Mzansi’s vehicle safety standards, international standards, and those recommended by testing organisations can be confusing. While ‘best practices’ in automotive safety are well-documented, they aren’t always adopted as legal requirements worldwide. South Africa’s safety regulations are often more lenient than stricter European standards, here’s why: https://hubs.li/Q032cD_q0 #SuzukiSA

DG MOVE checked Slovakia’s vehicle inspections As the Slovak Ministry of Transport informs (https://lnkd.in/emBtNABt and https://lnkd.in/e3wQksqy), officers of the European Commission’s Directorate-General Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) visited Slovakia to check Slovakia’s vehicle inspections system. Despite the recent sharp criticism expressed by some vehicle inspection station owners, according to the press release, the DG MOVE’s representatives didn’t express any objection to the Slovak inspection system and its organization. Speaking for our company TESTEK, we are glad that visit to our training and research facility and a demonstration of supervision over vehicle inspection centre could be part of the DG MOVE’s programme in Slovakia. It was our great pleasure to meet the DG MOVE delegation and to discuss the open questions of the EU vehicle inspection legislation with them.

UzTest Vehicle Compliance System Under Fire Amid Backlogs and Public Criticism The Piskent testing facility in Uzbekistan faces criticism due to lengthy wait times and operational inefficiencies, following new requirements for imported vehicle inspections. Despite 24/7 operations, the facility processes only 50 vehicles daily, meeting just 28% of demand. Temporary lab closures and electronic queue delays have frustrated importers. Economist Otabek Bakirov criticized UzTest as a "monopoly," calling for regulatory reforms. Public discontent grows as demand for compliance tests surges. SINGAPORE – Singapore’s largest port operator PSA handled more than 40 million shipping containers, or twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), in 2024, a record-breaking feat that it has called a “significant milestone”. This means that in 2024, Singapore’s port – consisting of terminals operated by both PSA and Jurong Port – surpassed the 2023 record of 39.01 million TEUs, said Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat in a Facebook post on Dec 27. Mr Chee added that the port is also on track to achieving a new record for total cargo throughput and bunker sales in 2024. PSA’s previous record of 38.8 million TEUs was set in 2023. In his post, Mr Chee credited the strong tripartite partnership and pro-business approach in the maritime sector for this latest achievement.

22 January 2025, Online ROCB A/P had an online meeting to strengthen collaboration with ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and align efforts to enhance Customs capacity-building and trade facilitation across ASEAN Members. ASEC conducts series of Capacity Building (CB) activities and ROCB A/P had wanted to discuss with them about reducing the duplication of efforts and even make synergies. In order to do so, our approach is to exchange information on the activities of respective organisations and their policy priorities. The first meeting turned out to be really productive and fruitful to think about how we can collaborate in the future. We agreed to maintain open communication and hold similar discussions in the future to ensure continued alignment and cooperation.
