Watch the recap here:
Consumers are stepping up their game when it comes to beer, moving away from lower-cost lagers to embrace premium, higher-quality options. This trend is a golden chance for pubs to position themselves as destinations for fewer, but more elevated, drinking occasions. Offering a curated range of premium beers and stouts can meet this demand and drive growth.
During our Lumina Intelligence pubs and bars webinar, Insight Lead Katie Gallagher highlighted THE DEVONSHIRE PUB COMPANY LIMITED, winner of the MCA's New Opening of the Year award in 2023 and home to the best Guinness in London. The pub's cutting-edge Guinness installation mirrors the perfection seen in Ireland, from nitrogen-to-CO2 levels to the perfect cooler temperatures. Their commitment to quality is proof that premium offerings can set your venue apart.

If you find yourself feeling peckish in Shoreditch, can I recommend Bibo. The hype promises “expectation-obliterating tapas” not to mention three-Michelin starred chef Dani García. But I know that it’s the “cocktails that boggle the senses” that will lure you in, with FAIR.’s new Chipotle Liqueur and Oaxaca Whiskey ramping up the Mexican inspiration.
We know that consumers are caring more and more about brand ethics when it comes to the planet and people. There aren’t many brands going to the lengths that FAIR do to create products that are not only delicious but also doing a lot of good in the world. This latest listing with Bibo will get FAIR's marvellous liquids on more lips and showcase how agile the range is to movers and shakers of the on-trade. Can’t say fairer than that!

Alongside the expansion of the FAIR. range, 2024 has been punctuated by numerous successes for the brand, with most recently both their Elderflower and Chipotle Liqueurs earning silver medals at The Spirits Business Liqueur & Speciality Spirits Masters 2024. 🥈🥈
The range has long been a firm favourite of bartenders and the on-trade, and these accolades are a testament to the quality and reputation FAIR. continues to build in the industry. 🥳

The on-premise channel – including bars, restaurants, event venues and more – is primed to provide growth for beer.
The key for suppliers and distributors to capitalize on that opportunity is to understand what retail operators are prioritizing, including profitability and efficiency, as detailed by our Brandy Rand, who represented BeerBoard at the recent Beer Institute Annual Meeting.
Efficiency, Profitability and Frictionless Transactions are keys to driving success for the on-premise. Learn more from the Brewbound coverage at the link below.

Another pure-play DTC brand goes multichannel.
Is this a good thing?
Absolutely.
If you have a good product you should make it easy for your customers to buy.
For most food and drink brands, this means being available in supermarkets, where 95% of food purchases are made.
Does this mean DTC is dead?
No way.
1) Without DTC, brands like Beer52 and Graze would not have been able to build their brands and refine their offer to the point where they have the credibility and relevance to get a supermarket listing.
2) DTC is still a great way to obtain bulkier, high-consumption everyday products like coffee, collagen, and toilet paper (to name a few).
Multichannel is the way to go, but it does not come without groundwork.

After lots of engagement on my recent post about Carling being named the most "boring" draught tap at pubs, it's great to share a story from the other side of the coin—𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻🍻.
Yesterday, the news broke that many small UK breweries are moving away from the “craft beer” label, and are instead championing the term “𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗿.” This shift, led by Andy Slee and the team at SIBA, aims to help consumers distinguish true independent British beers from brands owned by multinationals.
At Hospitality Data Insights (HDI), we did a project for SIBA, The Society of Independent Brewers and Associates last year, 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗿. Our analysis showed that draught Independent British Beer was available in only 60% of Managed Pubs, meaning 4 in 10 pubs were missing out on this category entirely. By contrast, 𝟯 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟬 𝗽𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 - highlighting the 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁.
There’s clearly a desire among consumers to support local and British producers. Independent British Beer can help pubs offer something unique and create a more premium, engaging range for their customers.
Great to see the SIBA team driving this important initiative!👏

Governor Cooper has signed SB 527, the ABC Omnibus Bill, into law, marking a major victory for NCRLA and our members. This law modernizes North Carolina’s ABC system, allowing mixed beverage permittees to start selling cocktails to-go immediately, among other provisions.
Key Provisions for To-Go Cocktails:
-Cocktails to-go are now permanent
-Alcohol must be sold with food
-Containers must have a secure lid or cap and be no larger than 24 fluid ounces
-Sales are limited to one mixed beverage or two single-serving wine containers at a time
-Third-party delivery services must use age verification and deliver only to purchasers over 21
These changes provide greater flexibility and new opportunities for our hospitality industry.
