Through mentorship, these young girls gain the tools they need to succeed in all areas of life, including school, sports, and beyond. Each mentorship relationship builds individual success and strengthens schools and communities. This relationship empowers them to develop their leadership skills, aspire to become role models, and take on the mantle of change-makers in their communities. Through mentorship, girls access valuable insights, resources, and networks that help them navigate challenges and seize opportunities. In the spring of 2021 we held pilot meetings in the Northeastern region of Minnesota. Soon after, in the summer of 2021 through the spring of 2022, we traveled (virtually) across rural Minnesota region by region. Then, in early fall we held meetings in the metro counties and areas. These convenings created connections with women, strategies to better support each other, explored existing formal and informal networks, and identified barriers and opportunities to overcome. Two topics that were especially discussed were woman leadership and the importance of mentorship. Additionally, in light of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we discussed the challenges of COVID and what positives we can take forward. Our goal was to ignite action in community, leadership, civic engagement, and rural entrepreneurship, while simultaneously identifying opportunities and connecting women with each other. CRS Sierra Leone launched its 2025-2030 Country Program Strategy that visions “ A Sierra Leone where women, children, youth and people with disabilities thrive in flourishing landscapes”. The strategy outlines how CRS Sierra Leone will contribute to and work with the Government of Sierra Leone on its five (5) big game changer priorities. The Country Program will leverage its extensive in-country experience, including regional and global expertise and in collaboration with donor, private sector, national and other international NGO partners deliver impact at scale for the people of Sierra Leone. The Country Program also launched its Local Leadership Strategy that outlines how it will intentionally work with local partners, communities and stakeholders to champion their own development in line with the agency’s global vision 2030 “In their own hands”.

Connect with Gender Champion Munyaradzi on a call for giving women and girls opportunities to flourish so that their confidence, skill set and support enable them to dream and aspire to take up leadership opportunities. Charity begins at home so allow them to lead and make decisions at household level. Second layer is as school and learning institutions, let us encourage women and girls to take up leadership opportunities, let’s create safe space for them to participate and let’s cultivate their confidence , cheering and supporting them to believe in themselves. For participation in public life let us nominate them to lead, let us affirm them in their leadership and for those in power, let us share our power and decision making privileges with them. #Action4Equality
