How to build a bridge in 40 seconds? Surprise! Obviously, it didn’t take 40 seconds, but nonetheless, as the timelapse video illustrates; time, planning and execution were of the essence building the arch bridge spanning a busy highway in Aalborg, Denmark. Safe and seamless assembling of large concrete arches and azobe sections with minimum disruption to traffic is testament to excellent planning and collaboration between MT Højgaard Danmark, Vejdirektoratet, and COWI, with Arkitema’s innovative design redefining the initial vision for the bridge. “The decision to make an arch bridge was the result of an insightful workshop with specialists from both the Danish Road Directorate and COWI. Not only does the design enable a minimum disruption of traffic during construction our initial considerations have also guided our choice of materials and reduced material usage leading the entire project in a more sustainable direction”, says Kristian Riis Ruby, Associate Project Director at COWI. The arch bridge seamlessly connects two campuses on each side of the road and is used by students and pedestrians daily.
Amazing COWI!
