County of Imperial Secures $1.86 Million to Expand Nursing Career Pathways and Strengthen Local Healthcare Workforce Big news for Imperial County! The California Workforce Development Board has awarded $1.86 million to Imperial County Workforce & Economic Development through the High Road Training Partnerships Healthcare Grant to support the Nursing Careers for Community Impact (NCCI) Project. This initiative will create high-quality career pathways for nurses, addressing critical regional shortages while promoting economic mobility for healthcare professionals. Imperial County’s project is one of only ten funded statewide—a major win for our community! Through partnerships with Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program (IVROP), Good For Others Foundation, Imperial Valley College, and others, NCCI will: ✅ Support 50 LVN-to-RN Bridge students in passing the NCLEX and co-enrolling in their BSN at San Diego State University-Imperial Valley ✅ Provide 60 LVN students with pre-bridge program training ✅ Expand clinical placements in public healthcare settings ✅ Increase Latino representation in RN roles ✅ Offer wraparound services like financial aid, transportation, childcare, and tutoring Chairman Hawk of the Imperial County Board of Supervisors highlighted the impact: “This investment in our local nursing workforce is a game-changer for Imperial County. By creating strong career pathways and addressing critical healthcare workforce shortages, we are not only supporting our nurses but also improving healthcare accessibility for our entire community.” Workforce & Economic Development Director Priscilla A. López emphasized the importance of growing homegrown talent: “The Nursing Careers for Community Impact initiative strengthens our local higher education programs and supports residents in achieving their career goals.
