A few weeks ago, I posted about the opportunity that I had with LA County to discuss Sustainability in the context of the upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic games. Obsessively watching the Paris games myself and seeing the multitude of posts about the Paris games leads me to also highlight the ways that the Paris games are bringing green solutions to the forefront. Here are some examples: • Use of 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 construction methods for necessary new developments and removing the need for air-conditioning in newly built Olympic Village apartments by incorporating high-performance insulation, sunshade, and reversible underfloor plumbing linked to a local geothermal power plant that draws cool water from beneath the surface during the summer and heat from far underground in the winter. • 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 during the games and minimal use of diesel generators often required for large venue events. • Out of two million pieces of sports equipment, 𝟯⁄𝟰 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. • All venues are accessible by 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, and more than 80% of the Olympic venues are situated within 10km of the Olympic Village, reinforced by more than 400km of new bike lanes. I look forward to LA in 2028, where we will continue to advance these areas and demonstrate our environmental stewardship. #Paris2024 #LA28 #SustainableOlympicGames #GreenGames #EnvironmentalStewardship #InnovationInSports https://lnkd.in/gvgU5AsT Sources: https://lnkd.in/gZNgjAnq & https://lnkd.in/gWXan-hi

👇 Evolution of the Tour de France's Carbon Emissions Since 2013 🇫🇷🚴 2021: 216,388 tC02 2019: ? 2017: ? 2015: ? 2013: 341,000 tC02 Goal for 2025: 170,500 tC02 Despite conducting carbon audits every two years, the Tour rarely discloses detailed results, making it challenging to fully assess its environmental impacts, progress, and areas for improvement. Based on available data: • Scope 1 & 2 emissions in 2021 ~ 12,984 tC02 • Scope 3 emissions in 2021 ~ 203,404 tC02 • Scope 1 & 2 emissions in 2013 ~ 20,600 tC02 • Scope 3 emissions in 2013 ~ 320,300 tC02 Transparency about an event’s carbon footprint should be viewed as an opportunity, not a trap. At Circular Unity, we advocate for shifting from a risk perspective to an opportunity perspective. By embracing transparency, event organizers can improve their carbon accounting methods, enhance their sustainability expertise, and establish essential benchmarks for the rest of the industry. The Tour started this weekend in Italy, offering an incredible platform to embrace and showcase environmental stewardship. With 42.5 million viewers in 2023, the Tour de France can set new standards for sustainability in sports events. To assist events in reporting their environmental impact, we developed impactALL, a solution specifically designed for events and sports.
