The EU Omnibus proposal is out: What does it mean for your business? Yesterday, the European Commission unveiled the Omnibus proposal — a sweeping rollback of sustainability reporting and due diligence obligations under CSRD, CSDDD, and the EU Taxonomy. The stated goal? Reducing administrative burdens and boosting competitiveness. The result? A dramatic weakening of sustainability reporting and due diligence obligations that could set European sustainability targets back by years while heavily undermining trust in EU institutions. Key changes at a glance:   ▶ CSRD: The employee threshold jumps to 1,000+ employees, removing 80% of previously in-scope companies. Sector-specific reporting? Scrapped. Reporting delays? Extended by two years. ▶ CSDDD: Weaker enforcement, delayed implementation, and reduced due diligence frequency. Civil liability? Left to national laws. ▶ EU Taxonomy: Reporting is now optional for mid-sized companies (<1,000 employees, <€450M turnover), while data points are reduced with 70%. This proposal rewards late adopters and punishes companies that proactively invested in compliance. It introduces regulatory instability at a time when trust in EU institutions is already fragile. Many investors, managing €6.6 trillion in assets, have voiced serious concerns. What happens next? The Omnibus is not yet law — it must pass through the European Parliament and Council, which could take years. Coolset’s take: We see this as a step in the wrong direction. But while regulations shift, corporate sustainability remains a long-term strategic imperative. Here’s how we’re helping businesses navigate the uncertainty: ▶ Future-proof compliance: Our solutions adapt to evolving regulations so you stay ahead. ▶ Focus on mid-market enterprises: We support companies balancing sustainability, growth, and compliance every day. ▶ Voluntary reporting readiness: With CSRD scope shrinking, VSME reporting will be key for staying credible in supply chains. What should businesses do now? Stay the course. Sustainability is not just a compliance exercise — it’s a competitive advantage. Companies that continue investing in transparency will be the long-term winners in the European market. If your company is affected and you’re unsure about the next steps, let’s talk. Coolset’s compliance experts are ready to help you navigate this evolving landscape.
