Combat Stress’ Post

For some of the veterans we treat, their individual experiences during their military career or after leaving the military, have led to strong feelings of shame and a tendency to think about themselves in negative, highly critical ways. This is where Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) comes in. We can develop very harsh automatic inner critical parts through our military training that remains with us when we leave. Helping that harsh judgmental part to take on a more balanced role through empathy and compassion with it allows it to soften and take a calmer more reflective stance when evaluating situations. We can change that inner bully into a supportive ally with a bit of effort 😊
