I think a common misconception about engineers in the construction industry is that we spend a lot of time doing calculations in math, and it's not entirely true. I think really a lot more of the day-to-day is spent working with other people, whether that be on phone calls, emails, other meetings to make sure that everybody's working towards a common goal. My best piece of advice for people entering the industry would be to ask as many questions as possible and get involved with as many projects as you can as industry is always changing and evolving and it's awesome to have a lot of experience under your belt, especially as a young engineer. The best part of the LAPD team is the collaborative environment with a diverse expertise among my colleagues. Working on a team that delivers a wide range of major infrastructure projects allows me to have a positive impact in communities. I'm able to face new challenges regularly that I can use my skill set to develop innovative solutions for.
