【CLP Power Quality Team Helps Customers Mitigate Voltage Dips】   Climate change has brought a sharp rise in extreme weather events, increasing the risk of voltage dips which also pose growing challenges to power systems, customers’ equipment and operations. At CLP, we recognise that resilience begins with proactive preparedness. Hong Kong’s electricity network ranks among the world’s most reliable, yet even robust infrastructure faces unprecedented pressures from severe storms, floods, and other environmental hazards. While we employ exceptional measures to keep our overhead lines and electricity networks operating seamlessly, momentary voltage dips can still occur during extreme weather, as in power systems worldwide. Our Power Quality Team is a team of experts dedicated to supporting our customers through complimentary one-stop technical consultation services. Our specialists conduct on-site assessments and deliver tailored recommendations, such as implementing an auto-restart scheme or a circuit improvement solution, helping businesses or buildings mitigate the impact of voltage dips on critical equipment. CLP remains committed to advancing Hong Kong’s energy resilience while supporting customers to strengthen their own contingencies. CLP and HKE have chosen not to adopt deionizing technology which reduces chorona effects on their towers during lightning storms and possible lightning strikes on transformer stations. Both prefer to not invest in inexpensive lightning prevention systems as the risk does not seem that high. They have not understood the fact that chorona effects increase the degradation of steel towers during lightning storms can be prevented - reduced by simply adopting deionizing technology which is readily available.
