Playing the game of comparison is dumb. I made such a big deal about the marathon and yet people are doing a marathon a day for 30 days. People do ultramarathons or Ironman contests which INCLUDE a marathon. They are running sub 2 hours 30 minutes. For me, it was never about the marathon. It was about the meaning of this specific marathon for me. Michel Bréal, a 19th-century linguist, was the founder of the field of semantics. That is the study of how words change in meaning. He is also the reason why we run marathons today. 📩 In this week’s edition of Inner Propaganda (link on the photos), I dive into the entire experience of running the NYC Marathon last week. I explain why I did it and why it made such an impact on me. I explore the meaning of a marathon. And just to make it feel even more real, it’s a long article. That way you can feel like you’re doing a marathon too! Instead of a slideshow, here’s a bunch of photos of the day. #NYCMarathon #Marathon #Mindset

A powerful reminder that our journeys are uniquely our own and comparing them to others only takes away from the significance of our personal growth. 🚶♂️🌱✨ In a world full of fast-paced achievements and highlight reels, it's easy to fall into the trap of measuring our progress against someone else's. But the true value of any accomplishment lies in its personal meaning and the lessons we take from it. 🏅 💪 Whether you're running a marathon 🏃♀️ or tackling a business challenge 💼, it’s about your journey, not how it compares to others. Celebrate your milestones, no matter how big or small 🎉 and embrace what each step means to you 💖. The only race that matters is the one you’re running for yourself. 🚀 Check out this inspiring piece on why comparing your journey to others can hold you back, and why focusing on your own path leads to true fulfillment. 🌟 Owen Fitzpatrick #BusinessAllStars #YourJourney #NoComparison #CelebrateYourPath #PurposeDrivenSuccess #InnerGrowth

Post 20/20 - The Paradoxical Playground! 🌊 The Constant Change Paradox 🌊 Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out… BAM! Life goes, “Oh, you thought?” and flips the script. Turns out, the only thing that doesn’t change is change itself. But here's the secret: rather than trying to control every twist and turn, it’s all about learning to dance with the unexpected. 💃🕺 When you lean into the unknown, you’re no longer caught off guard – you’re surfing the wave, ready for whatever’s next. Life’s a moving target; you can either chase it or embrace it. And guess what? The people who seem the most "together" usually aren't the ones avoiding change but the ones rolling with it, adapting, and re-inventing with every plot twist. So, next time life pulls a switcheroo, remember – you're just getting better at adapting. 😎 Challenge Time: People often believe that stability equals security. But maybe true security is knowing you can handle any change that comes your way! Let’s get paradoxical, people! 💡💭 PS: Images in this series are AI-generated. Marathons and Products What do they have in common? In 2019 I did three marathons. And now I think it's pretty similar to running a product. Here is how … The first 10 kilometers, you adapt. During this period, you must not rush the body because it will start to rebel, and the systems will not be built but blocked. If you compare it with a product, you must first think carefully, set the whole process, and build a strategy. In contrast, the last 10 kilometers are the time of acceleration. The time when you fight for the result. This is where a lot of things you need to do right - get users' feedback, prioritize it, and change the product accordingly. The last mile matters. You get all the benefits of doing the hard work — a cheering crowd, a feeling of achievement, and gratefulness to yourself.

🌟 A couple weeks after completing my first 50km ultramarathon I wanted to share these insights! 🌟 What an incredible journey it has been. When I first signed up, the distance seemed unimaginable, but with each step, I learned that our bodies and minds are capable of much more than we often realize. This race was a true test of perseverance, pushing my limits and discovering inner strength I didn’t know I had. Every step of the 50km taught me that limits are often self-imposed. The true challenge was not just physical, but mental. It was about pushing through doubts, finding resilience in the face of exhaustion, and continuing when every fiber of my being screamed to stop. This experience has reinforced my belief in the power of perseverance and mental strength. It’s a reminder that with determination and a positive mindset, we can achieve far beyond what we ever thought possible. To everyone out there facing their own challenges, remember: you are stronger than you think. Keep pushing, stay resilient, and you might just surprise yourself with what you can accomplish. #Ultramarathon #MentalStrength #Perseverance #LimitlessPotential #RunningJourney

People often characterize getting a PhD as “a marathon, not a sprint,” to imply that you have to take care of yourself on the way. The latter is true, but the analogy is inaccurate. The PhD is an ultramarathon. What? An ultramarathon is technically just any race longer than a marathon, but they are two entirely different races. A marathon, while 26 miles / 42km, is still just one continuous push to the finish. Ultramarathons — which can be 50k to hundreds of miles — are all-encompassing events. In an ultra, you run, you walk, you stop regularly to eat. In the longest ones, you sit for a while, or even nap. You might have a pace crew supporting you to the finish. You can still blast through a marathon like it’s a 5k and damage yourself; it’s the ultra that impels you to nourish yourself, rest, and get support, or you won’t make it. Treat your PhD like an ultramarathon.
