Final tip: Reduce the wastage It can be really hard to judge how much everyone will eat at Christmas and as plans change it's easy to be left with food. Choosing a menu where leftovers can be frozen can be one way to navigate this, or having meals which are based mainly on tins is another way. If you need more help with planning, do get in touch - and remember general meal planning tips apply here (if you followed my series last month you will know more!) 🎄 Celebrate Christmas with Love, Joy, and Safe Food 🎄 Christmas is a season of love, unity, and shared meals that bring families and friends together, our celebrations are incomplete without festive staples like nyama choma, chapati, pilau, and hearty vegetable stews. But as we prepare to share the joy of the season, let’s not overlook an essential part of our gatherings—food safety. It’s the invisible ingredient that ensures every meal is a source of happiness, not harm. This year, let’s make food safety our shared tradition, ensuring our loved ones stay healthy and nourished. Here are practical tips to keep your festive meals safe and delicious this Christmas: 🥕🥕.Buy Fresh Ingredients Shop from trusted vendors for fresh meat, fruits, and vegetables. Always check expiry dates on packaged items. Store Food Correctly Refrigerate perishables like milk, eggs, and meat immediately. Use coolers with ice packs if traveling far. 🍲.Cook Food Thoroughly Ensure meats like nyama choma are fully cooked—no pink or raw parts. Reheat leftovers until steaming hot before serving. 👐.Wash Hands Regularly Wash hands with soap before handling food and after touching raw ingredients. Teach kids the importance of handwashing before meals. 🦠.Avoid Cross-Contamination Use separate boards for raw meat and vegetables. Store raw foods below cooked items in the fridge. 💧.Use Clean Water Boil or filter water for cooking and washing produce. Rinse fruits thoroughly if making salads or fresh juices. 🥗.Handle Leftovers Safely Cool leftovers quickly, store in airtight containers, and consume within 2 days. Always reheat until piping hot before eating. 💡 Food Safety Is the Gift of Good Health This Christmas, let’s honor the spirit of the season by protecting our loved ones through safe food practices. A single thoughtful act—washing hands, storing food properly, or using clean water—can save someone from falling ill. As we celebrate with joy and laughter, let’s also make food safety a part of our family traditions. Because food isn’t just about flavor—it’s about love, care, and ensuring everyone enjoys the festivities in good health. Wishing you a Merry Christmas filled with happiness, warmth, and safe meals that bring people together! #FoodSafety #ChristmasInKenya #HealthyHolidays #TogetherWeCare #SafeCelebrations
