🏡 Enhancing Community Safety 🏡 In today's world, where we often refer to our homes as our castles, it's natural to desire safety and security within our communities. However, amidst increasing screen time and decreasing face-to-face interactions, many homeowners feel less secure. Despite this, statistics show a decline in violent crime rates. So, how can we address these feelings of insecurity and contribute to making our neighborhoods safer? 1️⃣ Form a Facebook Group: Create a safety-focused Facebook group to discuss concerns, organize meetings, and share information. 2️⃣ Utilize Nextdoor: Use this neighborhood-centric platform to connect with like-minded neighbors and share safety alerts responsibly. 3️⃣ Organize Clean-up Groups: Address safety hazards by organizing community clean-up initiatives to enhance public spaces. 4️⃣ Initiate a Neighborhood Watch: Establish a watch program to foster vigilance and collaboration in crime prevention. 5️⃣ Secure Your Property: Invest in smart locks and surveillance cameras to deter burglaries. 6️⃣ Problem-solving with SARA: Adopt the SARA method to address safety issues systematically. 7️⃣ Host Regular Meetings: Maintain communication through safety meetings and touch-base sessions. 8️⃣ Warn of Suspicious Activity: Collaborate with law enforcement to disseminate factual information about suspicious activities. 9️⃣ Offer Self-Defense Courses: Empower residents with self-defense skills through free local classes. 🔟 Promote Landscaping Safety: Raise awareness about landscaping hazards for safer outdoor environments. 1️⃣1️⃣ Reclaim Public Spaces: Revitalize abandoned areas through community-led clean-up efforts. 1️⃣2️⃣ Document and Analyze Results: Track progress and analyze the impact of safety initiatives. 1️⃣3️⃣ Educate on Social Media Safety: Raise awareness about online safety practices to mitigate risks. 1️⃣4️⃣ Conduct Neighborhood Tours: Organize tours to familiarize residents, especially children, with their surroundings. 1️⃣5️⃣ Set Boundaries for Children: Empower parents to establish clear safety boundaries for their children. Picture vocational trainings, childcare, financial counseling, mental health services, reentry support, transportation assistance, and more - all on one beautiful campus. That's CityLink. This seems like a real problem & serious safety issue!! Certainly, a neighborhood concern that should be addressed somehow. As candidate for #FirstWard #GR City Commission, I find it unacceptable that residents don’t feel like their worries and insights are heard and responded to! I would have to learn more about what the city or commission could do to help here on this traffic safety situation but it does seem like something could and should be done if there is a problematic pattern. On this Next Door post, I have suggested reaching out to our two sitting commissioners and asking them for help or guidance. If a community meeting is held on this, maybe they would attend.
