Matt Egan, our Global Content and Editorial Director at Foundry—home to Computerworld, CIO Online, CSO Online, Network World, and InfoWorld—had the pleasure of hosting a lively panel on #AIinEnterpriseIT at #IDCDirections2025 in San Jose on April 2. The conversation was rich with insights from industry leaders: Katie Norton: She highlighted the distinction between 'AI inside'—AI embedded in existing IT tools like dev tool copilots and smarter firewalls—and 'AI outside,' which involves building or fine-tuning models within your own applications. Katie emphasized, "The risks, benefits, and investment profiles of each are completely different—but they’re often discussed like they’re the same. Helping CIOs separate those two tracks is often the first step toward a practical AI strategy." She also noted, "AI in 2025 isn’t about chasing the next model—it’s about building the muscle to deploy it responsibly, repeatedly, and at scale." Marlanna Bozicevich: She pointed out, "Data products are a key success factor for all AI initiatives—including agents. Data products will be key to facilitating data exchange among agents, but challenges will arise in standardization." Ryan Reith: Discussing on-device AI, he mentioned, "Corporations expect productivity cost savings, better security, and innovation from on-device AI. Less dependence on cloud presents a range of benefits with security at the forefront." He added, "The expectations should be a more personalized experience, substantial improvements on speed, and the ability to more seamlessly work on AI tasks remotely." These perspectives shed light on the evolving landscape of AI in enterprise IT. Stay tuned for more insights from Matt and the Foundry team as we continue to explore these pivotal topics.
