Preserving water, regenerating life 💧At Château Galoupet, every drop matters. We maximize rainwater infiltration, restore the estate’s reservoir, and implement precision irrigation systems for responsible water use. Through regenerative hydrology and agroforestry, we fight erosion, enrich the soil, and foster a resilient ecosystem. The vines, in turn, draw deeply, ensuring their long-term adaptability. Every effort is aimed at preserving this vital resource for today and tomorrow.

The wisdom of river Rivers have been a tremendous boon and resource for humanity, offering drinking water, food, waste disposal, irrigation, fertilizer, and a medium for personal transportation, commerce, and recreation. Even in ancient times, many of these uses ended up in conflict and often required coordination to fully exploit, fostering the beginnings of government and its role in preserving the public trust. part of Himalayan mountain range

The training event organized by the #ItalianHydrotechnicAssociation to which Paladeri Srl gave its unconditional contribution took place on 06/28/2024 at Villa Campolieto - Fondazione Ente Ville Vesuviane. #Paladeri is engaged in an active dialogue with construction companies aimed at directly understanding their needs related to the construction site and specifically raising awareness of the #Paladex product and its potential. The #tank, identified in the Paladeri range as #Palastorm, aroused particular interest. The #tanks strengthen Paladeri's already constant commitment to the environment: they contribute significantly to limiting risks and damage resulting from climate changes in recent years. Collecting the water resource, through specifically studied and designed systems, means managing the "rainwater" resource as well as cleaning it from impurities, limiting the damage resulting from pollution and floods, regulating its disposal in canals and sewers and promoting its reuse for irrigation. Water use strategies adopted by tree species to cope with drought There’s no doubt. We’re in an historically unprecedented period. Like never before, we need to preserve our precious #WaterResources so advance planning of irrigation operations, according to the real needs of plants, is essential. The actual water demand of an urban tree depends on several factors, mainly linked to the characteristics of the growing site, the meteorological conditions and genetic factors intrinsic to the species. However, what are the #strategies developed by the trees, themselves, to help them compete for water resources? Woody species employ a wide range of strategies to withstand drought, abiotic stress resulting from the interaction of low water availability in the soil, high temperatures and high light intensities. These strategies range from isohydric behavior - maintaining leaf water potential and volumetric leaf water content during drought to reduce the risk of hydraulic failure, to anisohydric behavior - maintaining leaf physiological processes at low leaf water potential and sustaining photosynthesis despite the high risk of hydraulic failure. Typical traits belonging to isohydric species are early stomatal closure, leaf shedding, and deep rooting, while osmotic adjustment and changes in cell wall elasticity are key anisohydric traits. In the LIFE URBANGREEN project, species that typically showed a near-isohydric (e.g., Platanus x acerifolia, Tilia cordata) and a near-anisohydric (e.g., Fraxinus excelsior) behavior were studied. These resulting measured values for both strategies were a key part of the innovation puzzle in developing the GreenSpaces Smart Irrigation Module. As Greece and the Cyclades Islands face a severe water crisis due to #climatechange, our new book chapter unveils innovative strategies to address this challenge at local level. The HYDROUSA project test site in Mykonos island, showcases a decentralized rainwater management system with aquifer storage and recovery methods. This prototype leverages existing infrastructure to optimize natural water resources, ensuring water availability for domestic and agricultural purposes even during prolonged dry spells. By integrating tanks, terraces, bioswales and the granitic regolith, this solution fosters sustainable rainwater collection for irrigation, household use, and aquifer replenishment.

Our team at Anchor QEA recently visited the South Delta Channels, downstream of Paradise Cut and the San Joaquin River, to assess siltation issues that affect water conveyance for local farmers. These waterways are crucial for irrigation in the South Delta. While on site, we looked for potential beneficial uses of dredged material, including berm improvements to strengthen and maintain the existing channel network. Harnessing dredged material for beneficial purposes can transform challenges into opportunities for sustainable development. As we learn how to maximize the potential of these resources, we can further enhance our environment and communities. #AnchorQEA #FloodRiskManagement #EnvironmentalEngineering

We know desert greening works. However should we be spending water resources to fight desertification? While desert greening initiatives can have many positive impacts, there are also several potential negatives or challenges associated with these projects: 💧Water Resource Strain: Large-scale greening projects often require substantial amounts of water, which can deplete local water resources. 💧Biodiversity Impact: Introducing non-native plant species as part of greening efforts can disrupt local ecosystems. 💧Soil Salinization: Irrigation in arid climates without adequate drainage can lead to soil salinization. 💧High Costs: The technologies and methods used in desert greening, such as desalination and specialized irrigation systems, can be very costly. This makes such projects difficult to sustain without significant investment and can divert resources from other critical needs. #africa #water #watertreatment
