It was a great day in Baku yesterday at the Southern Gas Corridor and Green Energy Advisory Council, where CESI SpA was invited to provide the latest updates on the Green Energy Corridor (#GEC) Feasibility Study in front of the Governments of #Azerbaijan, #Georgia, #Romania, #Hungary and #Bulgaria, the European Commission Energy Commissioner Jørgensen and the high level representatives of International Financial Institutions and Private Sector actively engaged in the region. My key takeaways from the gathering: -       Utmost importance of power transmission infrastructure to boost interconnectivity and exploit abundant resources of the region. 35 GW of #RES generation could be unlocked by this project, while enhancing power systems security and resilience by supplying the interconnected countries with a more diversified and stable mix of electricity. -       Increasing interest of neighbourhood countries to join this effort by investigating options to enlarge the corridor on both Western and Eastern sides. The extension to interconnect #CentralAsia by means of submarine cables across the Caspian Sea would enable to pooling the abundant resources being exploited in the region on both VRES and Hydropower developments. -       Strong support from Financial Institutions such as The World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), EBRD and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which unanimously expressed their intention and commitment to support these endeavours by actively contributing to project preparation support activities as well as providing competitive financing for projects already under implementation.
