This is the Kirana store near my house which won't be closed at any means because of Zepto / Blinkit We have been reading all week about the impact of Quick commerce on the closure of 2,00,000 Kirana stores in last one year. But here are the more insights you have to understand ▶️ Metropolitan Areas: 90,000 closures (45% of total closures) ▶️ Tier-1 Cities: 60,000 closures (30% of total closures) India has approximately 13 million kirana stores across the country, with a significant concentration in tier-2 and smaller cities. Specifically, it is estimated that over 10 million of these stores are located in tier-2 cities and smaller towns Ever visited a kirana store in a small town or village? If you stand there for just five minutes, you'll notice something interesting: customers don't ask for 1kg or 5kg packs of items like toor dal. They ask for ₹20 worth of it. That's the secret to why kirana stores thrive, breaking down bulk goods into smaller quantities and selling at a better margin. And the best part? The customer doesn’t even notice the difference. They look for requirement to requirement basis as they earn on daily basis Until people in these towns have more disposable income, this system won't change. In metros, premium convenience is the new normal, but in smaller cities, it's still a distant dream. That's why kirana stores aren’t going anywhere. They aren't just surviving—they're thriving by meeting a need that quick commerce can’t. India is beyond what we see in metro cities. Follow Chaitanya Athukuri for more such posts. India is a nation of shopkeepers, with approximately 13 million Kirana stores forming the backbone of the country's retail market. Despite their prevalence, the retail segment in rural areas remains largely unorganized, facing challenges such as poorly stocked inventory, high prices, and inefficient supply chains. Frendy and VilCart are addressing these issues head-on, leveraging technology and innovative business models to modernize the Kirana industry. #retail #market #business #news #update #technology Click the link to read more:https://lnkd.in/g5Xup9sx By - Aritra Ghosh , Features Writer, IndianRetailer.com Prasanna Kumar C (CPK), Rural CEO of Vilcart. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐮 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲? 🛍️ Here’s how you can approach this guesstimate: 1️⃣ Start with the population of Bengaluru (around 12 million). 2️⃣ Estimate the percentage of people who visit malls regularly—let’s say 10-15% of the population. 3️⃣ Narrow down to Forum Mall—assume it captures a portion of mall-goers, maybe 10-20% of the city’s total mall visitors. 4️⃣ Consider Sunday footfall—weekends generally have higher traffic. Estimate that 60-70% of regular mall-goers visit on Sundays. 5️⃣ Account for factors like special events, sales, or local holidays that may increase or decrease foot traffic. 6️⃣ Estimate the average number of people per visit based on the mall's size and popularity. After making these assumptions, you can estimate the total number of visitors to Forum Mall on a Sunday. How would you estimate it?
