Shetland Creek Wildfire Update: Venables Valley, BC To Help in BC, we’ve launched an operation to assist the communities of Cooks Ferry and Venables Valley, near Ashcroft, which have been hard-hit by the Shetland Creek wildfire. 20 structures were destroyed. Here's what we're doing: • Our teams are removing dangerous trees and other hazards through chainsaw and mitigation work. • We are Guiding Recovery by mentoring Venables Valley residents on recovery efforts, including ash sifting operations and safe material disposal. • Thanks to the generosity of Labatt Breweries of Canada and their water program, we are helping to deliver much-needed Labatt’s water to the Cooks Ferry Indian Band, who have heroically led the wildfire response and urgently need supplies to continue their vital work. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, and many residents remain displaced. Several evacuation orders and alerts are still in effect, with the wildfire spanning over 24,000 hectares, one of the largest in the province. Financial support is crucial to empower our rapid response and support long-term recovery efforts as unmet needs continue to rise across Western Canada. We are on standby for assistance in Jasper. Your donation will help ensure that we can always say YES: https://bit.ly/4bfTqOg 📸: BC Fire #DisasterRecovery #DisasterRelief #SocialImpact #Community #HelpingHands #MakeADifference #Wildfire #DisasterRelief #WesternCanada #Wildfires #CommunitySupport #Resilience #BritishColumbia #BCFire #Wildfireseason

Asheville, NC update: for those who are eager to help and have not already, pause for a moment. Buncombe County is saturated with resources, volunteers, food, water right now. Please give our community time to distribute and organize. What we will need is support in 3-4 weeks once these supplies are depleted. Needs may also change at that point, and the media buzz about WNC might be quiet(er). That is when we will need your support to sustain the community and fuel rebuilding efforts. If you need to take action now, I recommend Manna Food Bank: a community lifeline that was already serving food insecurity needs across 16 counties in western NC (for the last 40 years!) Their primary warehouse was lost to flooding, and they are rebooting to meet the needs of our area. They are well connected across the region, managed to save their distribution trucks, and have the means to reach rural areas with most need: https://lnkd.in/enZn3RXF

This is a great way to gain experience and contacts in the early stages of moving to a conservation or land-management career.
As part of a Cotswold District Council and Gloucestershire Rural Community Council (GRCC) initiative we are seeking to recruit flood wardens across each of the eight wards of Cirencester. Flood Wardens play a key role, working with their local town or parish council to help their community prepare for, respond to and recover from flooding. Flood Wardens are volunteers who help ensure that flood warnings and messages about being prepared, reach the local community. They are an important conduit between the community and the Town Council, providing invaluable information about the situation on the ground, so that the emergency response can be planned appropriately. If you are interested in volunteering please e-mail our land and property team at: landandproperty@cirencester.gov.uk

Supporting Flood Victims: A Thoughtful Approach In the wake of recent flooding, it’s heartening to see many organizations stepping up to help. However, it’s essential to remember the specific needs of those affected. Some of the flood victims express a critical need for assistance beyond food supplies, stating, “We have plenty of food; we need help cleaning up the area.” When multiple organizations deliver food, it can lead to confusion and oversupply, especially when homes are rendered uninhabitable, and refrigerators are unusable. To provide meaningful support, I encourage collaboration with local leaders or response units already on the ground. They can offer valuable insights into what assistance is truly needed, whether it’s shelter, food, clothing, or medical care. When it comes to food, it’s important to consider items that are both nutritious and practical. Prepared meals like chicken rice or nasi lemak, as well as long-shelf-life items such as canned sardines, instant noodles, and canned peanuts, should be prioritized. Avoid providing raw ingredients like uncooked chicken or fresh vegetables, as many victims lack the means to cook in their current circumstances. By tailoring our support to the actual needs of flood victims, we can make a more significant impact during this challenging time. #floodvictim #volunteer #communityservice

Multiple fast-moving wildfires are raging across southern #California, forcing thousands to evacuate and threatening entire communities. Here are 3 facts you need to know and how you can help those affected: ➡️ Four major wildfires are burning through California’s Los Angeles area. The Palisades fire has become the most destructive wildfire in Los Angeles history, burning more than 15,000 acres and causing significant damage to homes and businesses along the Pacific Coast Highway toward Malibu. ➡️ Resources are stretched thin. Crews battling these fires are facing additional challenges, including a lack of water from fire hydrants in the area, which is complicating firefighting efforts. ➡️ Cash is the best way to help people in need during a crisis like the California wildfires. Why? Survivors’ needs vary greatly in the aftermath of a crisis event. Some will require financial support, medical care, and psychological assistance years down the road.
