⚡ This is the starting shot to decarbonize heavy industries world-wide⚡ I'm very proud to share these news: Our Climate Founders portfolio company HyperHeat raises €3.5 from APEX Ventures, Breakthrough Energy Fellows, Possible Ventures, Finindus, E44 Ventures, Pjotr van Schothorst and Matt Blythe. When I connected Lars Amsbeck and Frederick Lessmann last year and they came back to me a week later, and shared the news that they aim to build HyperHeat together I was sure there is something huge in the making. In the meantime I'm even more confident that this will become huge as a company and can also become a huge solution for the climate. Lars oftentimes develops the hardware faster than expected and Frederick always finds ways to get a foot in the door in many industrial enterprises to evaluate and prove different use cases from steelmaking to chemicals, from furnace retrofitting to high temperature storage. For me one of the strongest teams I've ever met. The beauty of the HyperHeat solution is its versatility and modular design. The heater basically fits into most industrial heating processes and can be also seen as a low cost solution for retrofitting. Therefore HyperHeat likely provides the fastest and most cost effective way to decarbonize industrial heat up to 2000°C. As industrial heat accounts for up to 40% of CO2 emissions world-wide this will probably be one of the most important tasks for humanity in the next 10 to 20 years. Swiss e-SAF firm Metafuels raises $9m Swiss sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) technology developer Metafuels announced its successful oversubscribed $9m funding round led by Celsius Industries. Other new investors in the latest round included RockCreek, Fortescue Ventures, Verve Ventures, with existing investors Energy Impact Partners (EIP) and Contrarian Ventures also participating. “We are thrilled to have Celsius, RockCreek, Fortescue and Verve onboard as new strategic partners. We have now raised $22m since launching, which is going to allow us to complete the demonstration programme and focus on industrialisation, and the commercial rollout for our e-SAF offering. Sacramento-based startup Infinium is creating low-carbon alternatives for the trucking and aviation industries. Currently, Infinium's Corpus Christi, Texas plant is supplying sustainable fuel to major players like Amazon. American Airlines has also committed to purchasing Infinium’s sustainable aviation fuel as early as 2026. Infinium's groundbreaking approach involves using renewable energy sources like wind and solar combined with hydrogen and captured CO2 to produce synthetic liquid fuels known as “syngas” as replacements for petroleum-based products. With support from Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund and Bill Gates backed Breakthrough Energy, Infinium is poised to scale its operations rapidly. The recent $75M investment commitment demonstrates the industry's confidence in the potential of efuels to drive sustainable change. 🔥 What’s That Flame? 🔥 If you’ve recently driven past the I-196 exit in Zeeland, you may have noticed a burning flame and wondered what it is. That flame is part of the new Autumn Hills Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility, a project owned and operated by Kinder Morgan and hosted on the Zeeland Farm Services campus. This facility processes landfill biogas into renewable natural gas (RNG), which is then used to fuel transportation—significantly reducing emissions compared to gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles. The flare plays a crucial role in the startup and restart processes of RNG production. Just another example of innovation in action within our business community! ✨♻️

🚀 Let's advance the decarbonization of industrial processes and create large-scale CO2 sinks to positively impact the global climate! Climate tech start-up autarkize has successfully closed a €2.3 million seed funding round. The round was led by HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds. Other investors include Dutch impact investor Fair Capital Impact Fund, Interface Capital, Innovation for Impact and Floris Capital GmbH.   🔄️ autarkize has developed a groundbreaking technology that converts biogenic residues—such as waste wood, shells, and fermentation by-products—into renewable gas and certified biochar. The gas substitutes fossil fuels in industrial processes, while the biochar acts as a CO2 sink and can also be used in agriculture and construction. Aepnus is cheaper and better. Nerdier description: Aepnus has the world's best electrolyzer for recycling waste chemicals like sodium and lithium sulfate into useful chemicals like sodium and lithium hydroxide. The electrolyzer doesn't need iridium, which is super expensive and a pain to source. Capex is reduced 60% relative to the current state of the art and opex 40%. Especially for the battery supply chain, they solve a snowballing problem. As gigafactories expand to parts of the world that care about ecosystem impact (i.e. outside of China), sodium sulfate waste processing is a reason they can't get built. Look no further than the BASF facility in Finland that failed permitting for this reason. Customer calls were extremely compelling during diligence.
