Each year, the CCCAOE board gathers for its Board Retreat to strategize and plan for the next year. This year, we added a campus tour to our 3 days of work. This tour was at San Diego City College. We are energized by the fantastic hosts and guides, including Sasha Knox, Ed.D, Associate Dean of Strong Workforce and Career Education, who gave the board a comprehensive tour of many CTE programs and facilities. It was a great reminder of why we do this work. Orange County Region, we are coming to you in January 2025. WHY THIS WORK MATTERS As each college strives to meet workforce needs in the ever-changing landscape of education, CCCAOE brings stakeholders together to share best practices and advocate for excellence in career education throughout the state. Professional development is designed to help prepare members for future industry and education trends, and to improve student success and employment. CCCAOE also extends opportunities for members to strengthen their network, cultivate their knowledge, broaden their understanding of state initiatives, and develop an expertise to integrate multiple funding sources. #Careers4all #sandiegocitycollege #CTE #HigherEducation #WorkforceSuccess #educationispower #careereducation #studentsuccess #education #ProfessionalDevelopment #CommunityCollege #Educators #CollaborationforEducation #EmpoweringStudents #californiacommunitycollege #careercollaboration #SupportCCCeducation #CACommunityColleges

This is for real! A college education for someone you know. If you are reading this that means we are connected, and you may be able to provide someone you know with the opportunity of a lifetime. At HJC we are launching a new Associate of Classical Liberal Arts program that has been developed to be more than just an education. It is a transformative journey. Imagine a college program that is about exploring the greatest ideas of civilization to develop your own independent thought. There are also some other significant differences in this program. The first is delivery- students work online and then come together at the end of each quarter for a few days at a live engagement event. Second, rather than reading textbooks, students engage with the original material. In other words, instead of reading what someone else says about Plato and Aristotle, students read the original work and form their own ideas and opinions. We are launching the new program this Fall with the inaugural group beginning Sept.23, 2024. 20 scholarships covering 100% of tuition. 20 scholarships covering 75% of tuition 20 scholarships covering 50% of tuition The scholarships do not cover travel or lodging while attending the live engagement events at the end of each quarter. If you know of someone who might be interested in this, contact me here on Linkedin or shoot me an e-mail at admissions@hjc.edu. This might be the exact kind of program for your son, daughter, niece or nephew, or the bright neighbor that just needs a little nudge, etc.- this program is also ideal for students with a homeschool background or anyone looking for a different kind of college experience. There is more info on the program at the link: Classical Liberal Arts Program - 2-Year Associate Degree at HJC (gohjc.org)

This week’s #AlumniThenAndNow highlight features Shavell Rodgers from the De La Salle Institute Class of 2016! Shavell went off to Chicago State University to study management and finance and now works as an operator at Durham Quality Plus! 💙What was DMSF’s impact on you? 💛 Receiving the DMSF scholarship gave me access to a high quality private school education, an amazing and supportive mentor, and a staff that really cared about me receiving not only a quality high school education, but a quality college education as well. Receiving the DMSF scholarship helped me stay focus through high school and opened my eyes up to so many amazing colleges. I learned that I could truly do anything I set my mind to do. All it takes is a little hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice. 💙For you, what does it mean to be a Murphy Scholar? 💛 Being a Murphy Scholar means that you’re not going to let the obstacles and challenges that you might face in life stand in the way of achieving your goals and dreams. Being a Murphy Scholar means that you’re going to use all of the resources and programs that are available to you to have the best high school and college experience that you could possibly have. Being a Murphy Scholar means that you’re going to give back and pay it forward to help all of the new scholars that come after you. 💙What advice do you have for current Murphy Scholars? 💛To never be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. It’s totally okay to approach people and put yourself in an environment that might be uncomfortable for you. It’s only going to help grow your network and open up amazing opportunities for you. Thank you for encouraging us to step outside of our comfort zones! #35YearsOfMurphyScholars #AlumniThen&Now #HighSchoolScholarship #EducationAccess

📢 "Government, Opposition, regulators, representative bodies and think tanks should make greater use of student focus groups in their research and policy development." ✍ Baker Dearing Educational Trust chief executive Simon Connell wrote for a recent edition of FE Week about ImpactEd Group's report on the UTC programme, 'Powering the Engine of Opportunity'. 💬 Following the excellent contributions made by student focus groups to that report, Simon argues that young people ought to be respected as stakeholders in their own right and consulted directly on education reforms. #thinkUTC https://lnkd.in/gmvQrHzd
