Welcome to the third week of January. Where the bright eyes dim, the bushy tails lose volume. I find this the most disheartening week of the year. Everyone has returned with their "new year, new me" energy, and then you see it dampen as the "it's a January problem" chickens come home to roost, and the daily rhythm is a repeat of the previous years'. Four things I've done to keep the motivation up: 🧐 Reviewed those "resolutions" (on my side they're more like intentions for the year) - because the ones that are still sticking, are probably the ones worth pursuing. And if none of them stuck, it's time to reflect on "why" and reset. (Thankfully I am old and ugly enough to have learnt this lesson, and can proudly say that most of mine are still aligned with where I want to go 💪) 🍉 Took a break. Yup. Picked up a horrendous flu over the break, but I was so caught up in the "new year" hype that I didn't give myself a chance to recover properly, and it was starting to show. So I took some time to make sure I get my energy back up. Flu's still here, but I feel a thousand times better! 📱 Stop scrolling LinkedIn. For the most part, it's the same vanilla AI-generated content from last year. I like to clean up my feeds and inboxes this time of year to make way for more interesting content to spark my days. 💫 Zoom out. Reflect on the "glimmers" of the time off (the feel-good moments where everything felt clear and purpose-aligned), and figure out how to bring a little of that perspective into the work that needs to be done today. This puts the meaning back into my work. Anyone else? No? Just me?
"it's a January problem" chickens coming home to roost. 🤣 . Yup!
