It’s inspiring to see how collaboration between academia and policy creation is driving solutions to some of the world’s most urgent challenges. A great example of this is the work being done by MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) researchers, who have directly contributed to shaping U.S. regulations aimed at accelerating clean hydrogen production. William H. Green, Director of MITEI, shares that while their analyses typically guide conversations, this time their research had an immediate and tangible impact. Within just two years, their work directly translated into public policy—ultimately becoming law. This collaboration between research and policy is a testament to the incredible impact that informed, data-driven solutions can have on creating a zero-carbon future. The Role of Carbon Credits in Scaling Up Clean Energy Technologies ☀️🔌 The report from - International Energy Agency (IEA) and GenZero - delves into how carbon credits could strengthen the deployment of technologies like low-emissions #hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuels, and direct air capture. These technologies are critical for achieving #NetZero targets. 📈🟢 The findings prove that investment and adoption are required, thus suggesting a massive scale-up: for instance, #low-emissions hydrogen production must leap from nearly zero today to 70 million tonnes by 2030. The role of high-quality carbon credits is emphasized as a significant catalyst in attracting the necessary private capital and accelerating technology adoption, providing a new layer of support alongside traditional financing. 🏦🌱 As we explore these innovations, it becomes clear that while #carboncredits play a pivotal role, a broader and more coordinated policy approach is necessary in light of EU’s #CBAM and more upcoming CBAM. What are the key barriers we must overcome to ensure these mechanisms work jointly with all the other environmental regulations to ensure we reach our climate goals? 🌍💬 #cleanenergy #IEA #sustainability

At the 2024 Climate & Sustainability Leadership Summit, Assaf Sayada, CEO of Hydro X, discusses the challenges facing the hydrogen economy, including high costs for storage and transportation, which currently exceed industry targets. He introduces Hydro X's innovative water-based technology, which aims to reduce storage costs to below $1 per kilogram. This non-toxic, non-flammable solution operates under near-ambient conditions, cutting both operational and capital expenses. Assaf highlights the potential for Hydro X’s breakthrough to scale hydrogen use in industries like steel, glass, and gas blending, positioning it as a key driver of the hydrogen economy. #hydrogen #energy #energystorage #hydrogeneconomy #environment Nicole Grubner Gil Bashe Celia Jones Cullen Burnell Amy Terpeluk
At the 2024 Climate & Sustainability Leadership Summit, Assaf Sayada, CEO of Hydro X, is presenting "The Hydrogen Economy at the Crossroads," emphasizing hydrogen's critical role in reducing global emissions by up to 45%. He is addressing the major challenge of high costs associated with hydrogen storage and transportation, pointing out that current technologies like compression and liquefaction drive costs to $9 per kilogram, far above the $2-$3 industry target. Sayada highlights the geographical and seasonal mismatches in hydrogen production and demand, which add to the complexity of implementing hydrogen at scale. Hydro X is aiming to disrupt the industry by reducing storage and transportation costs to less than $1 per kilogram with its innovative water-based technology. This solution operates under near-ambient conditions, is non-toxic, non-flammable, and does not require the hazardous, expensive infrastructure typically associated with hydrogen storage. Sayada explains that Hydro X’s technology offers a safer, more cost-effective approach that can significantly reduce both operational and capital expenses. He emphasizes the potential for this breakthrough to scale hydrogen storage, making it a viable solution for industries such as steel, glass, and gas blending, ultimately driving the hydrogen economy forward. https://buff.ly/3TzWj5R #hydrogen #energy #emissions #climate #environment Nicole Grubner Gil Bashe Celia Jones Cullen Burnell FINN Partners

What is the pathway to a clean #hydrogen economy in Europe? At the Innovate to Net Zero Summit at World Hydrogen Week in Copenhagen, CATF's Alex Carr highlighted the challenging economics around hydrogen targets, and stressed that more policy effort is needed to couple the clean hydrogen production push with necessary offtake in sectors that need clean hydrogen the most. On a separate panel, Alex discussed the industrial "trilemma" facing Europe – keeping industry local and costs low while decarbonising. Policymakers must tackle the issue of raising the sufficient capital needed to decarbonise industry to keep it active and competitive on the continent. https://lnkd.in/e2gmqN4U

Green #Hydrogen holds a great deal of promise in contributing to the challenge of implementing alternatives to fossil fuels, particularly in energy intensive sectors such as aviation, shipping and heavy industry. In order to achieve our decarbonization goals in these areas, we will need innovative solutions. We need to think strategically about how, when, and where we produce and consume Green #Hydrogen. The U.S. commitment to harnessing this technology is clear with the recent establishment of seven regional U.S. hubs that will strive to produce more than three million metric tons of clean hydrogen per year. “Green Hydrogen: A Critical Balancing Act,” the latest issue in our Danfoss Impact Series, explores the challenges and opportunities in ushering in the era of green hydrogen. The technologies to lower the cost and increase the efficiency of green hydrogen exist; the challenge is to scale it in a cost-effective and efficient manner. For insight into how we can meet these challenges and realize the full potential of green hydrogen to diversify our energy sources and reduce carbon emissions, read https://bit.ly/49NIS7I

🌍 CCUS: The Future of Carbon Capture and a $200 Billion Investment Opportunity 🌍 In 2023, ~$11 billion was invested in CCUS, a clear sign that the world is serious about tackling climate change. By 2035, we expect to see 480 Mtpa of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) capacity come online! Here's how the global landscape is shaping up: 🔹 The US will lead, holding 40% of total global capacity. 🔹 UK and the rest of Europe follow with 16% and 12%, respectively. 🔹 Hydrogen & Power Generation will be the largest sector, accounting for 36% of all proposed capture capacity. But there’s more! To meet the 480 Mtpa demand, we’ll need around 610 Mtpa of capacity. This creates a US$200 billion investment opportunity, with $80 billion will come from government support across countries. 💡 Investment Breakdown: 50% to CO2 capture 25% to transport 22% to storage 3% others #CCUS #CarbonCapture #Sustainability #ClimateAction #GreenEnergy #InvestmentOpportunity #Hydrogen #PowerGeneration #NetZero #EnergyTransition ISG (Information Services Group)
