#GPS FIELD #DATAQUALITY CHALLENGES #Datacollection in the field presents unique data quality challenges. Field data are often collected in less than ideal conditions and optimized workflows are often not available. However, this does not mean that field data should not be treated with the same rigor that data collected such as sample preparation, or assays. In fact, field data often deserve extra scrutiny due to increased likelihood of data quality complications, such as: inconsistent nomenclature, inaccurate transcriptions or instrumentation problems. There are multiple options how to determine the accuracy of GPS using in mining or exploration projects. This was a case study corresponding six GPS receptors versus LiDAR. The absolute value or modulus of Z1 (LiDAR) and Z2 (GPS) give us the percent error. This percentage was grouped by ranges to understand clearly GPS accuracy and performance in specific places its tendency.

Data + International presented the ArcGIS solution for the mining industry at the AMM Congress at the customer's stand in Astana. Of particular interest was the 3D model of the underground part of the mine, built based on the results of lidar drone surveys. The analysis of historical data from such surveys allows to assess the changes, occurring in the geometry of the mine - both the results of the work performed and those that occurred due to natural processes.

Challenges of Using LiDAR in Coal Mining 1. Surface Reflectivity: Black objects (coal body) tend to absorb more light than they reflect, which can reduce the effectiveness of LiDAR detection. High frequencies like 240 kHz can help improve resolution and detail, but they do not completely solve the issue of low reflectivity. 2. Measurement Noise: LiDAR sensors can be affected by noise, which can reduce the accuracy of the data collected 3. Range Limitation: The effective range of LiDAR sensors can be limited, especially in large-scale mining operations 4. Environmental Occlusion: water body, vegetation, and other structures can leading to incomplete data 5. Feature Degradation: The complex and irregular surfaces in mining environments can degrade the quality of the LiDAR data   This snapshot is an example of a LiDAR survey in coal mining that did not take into account the capabilities of the sensor and a good flight plan.
