Breaking new ground on the integration of asset management and airport effectiveness!

Two weeks ago, we published a white paper on planning and management of airport Capital Improvement Programs (CIP). Working with Tatiana Starostina and the team at AAAE, I learned a lot through the drafting process - in particular from my co-authors Guy Nagahama, Jorge Gonzalez and Ira Smelkinson. A few of the key takeaways discussed and detailed include: 1. CIPs must be integrated into longer term airport strategic planning (hint, this means you need to make sure you have a strategic plan to begin with!). 2. Stakeholder engagement must start early and be a constant effort. 3. Establishing clear purpose and need upfront, for each element of the program, helps ensure there is clarity and an ability to monitor progress against long term goals. Thanks to AAAE for the opportunity to help lead this initiative (shout out Jeremy Valcich, C.M., ACE, IACE and to Jose F. Saavedra, C.M., M.E. and Ryan Yakubik, CFA for helping to seed the initial efforts). It comes at a good time with the industry facing tremendous capital needs over the next two decades.
