I've been a fire engineer for number of years and still amazes me that most people don't understand what we do. My main issue is the understanding of what we DON'T do. I receive queries just about everyday for items that are out of scope. Here is just short list of things we don't do: - Type of fire alarm system (conventional or addressible) - Size of the fire alarm panel - Approval of the sprinkler pump location - Size of sprinkler valve room - Fire fighting water supply - Review of tender documents - Emergency lighting layout - Specify anything! Our role is really important at building consent however there seems to be a misunderstanding that everything with 'fire' in the name is our responsiblity. Perhaps there needs more education on role of the fire engineer. It's doesn't feel like an proper engineering disipline if its so grossly misunderstood.

🔥 What is a fire suppression system? • Fire suppression systems are typically used to control, put out or prevent fires from spreading by applying an extinguishing substance such as water, foam, inert gas or chemical compounds. 🔥 How does fire suppression system works? • A fire suppression system is designed for early detection of fire, especially at its infancy stage. The system will usually first identify the presence of smoke and heat, subsequently causing the suppression system to discharge, so the fire can be extinguished before it has the opportunity to spread. • Fire suppression systems can be considered an ‘active’ fire protection method because the system is triggered in response to the presence of fire or its indicators. 🔥 When is a fire suppression system required? • Fire suppression systems should be installed in buildings or areas where a water based fire protection system (hose/sprinkler) may not be the most effective method of fire protection or areas that are often unoccupied or unsupervised. ✅ To know more details on fire safety related topics please keep updated with us. ✅ For upcoming batch of "Active Fire Protection System For High Rise Building" professional course (ONLINE & OFFLINE) please kindly contact us. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 🔥 Inferno Engineering Nexus of Fire Safety Engineering Knowledge Engineers | Architects | Fire Safety Professionals Admin | https://lnkd.in/gedH68pk WhatsApp | +8801733157773 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 📌 Follow Us: Facebook Page | Facebook Group LinkedIn Page | LinkedIn Group YouTube Channel | Website [Under Development] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

What are the key parts of a Smoke Control System? Smoke detection system A smoke detection system is an essential component of a building’s fire safety infrastructure, designed to detect the presence of smoke and alert occupants or trigger automated safety responses. These systems are critical for providing early warning in the event of a fire, allowing occupants to evacuate safely and in some cases reduce the amount of damage that occurs. When a Smoke Control system gets an input that smoke has been detected, a series of events will take place following the Cause and Effects strategy programmed by the designer: 1 - Close any open Day to Day dampers on the system to prevent smoke spreading. 2 - Open the Smoke Control damper in the compartment where smoke has been detected (into a smoke shaft or the external face of the building) 3 - Open the Head of Stair AOV (and Head of Shaft AOV on a natural system, or termination dampers on a fan set) 4 - Start the Smoke extract fans (on a powered system, or the Supply fans on a pressurisation system) The smoke detection system will also trigger any other fire protection devices, such as Smoke Curtains, and open final exit doors. See my next posts for a further breakdown of Smoke Control components If you are looking for a new Smoke Control Contractor in 2025, please send an email to Hello@allcorn.uk to find out more about our services I’m currently hiring service and installation engineers, please get in touch with me for more details Allcorn Smoke Control #lifesafety #smokecontrol #AOV #hiring #recruting #electrician

One for fire engineers or fire safety engineers everywhere - say you are out and about and meet someone new (at a party or the gym or the pub etc) and they ask you "So what do you do for a living?" - how do you answer this in a concise way? I usually say something like "I'm a fire engineer which means I help architects make buildings safer - from a fire safety point of view. Recently I've been dealing with lots of the combustible cladding issues" There has to be a better explanation of what we do - anyone got one? #fireengineer #firesafetyengineer #engineering
