Fantastic news! Our thanks to Miracle Theatre and everyone else involved in this significant accomplishment! The BC Wildfire Service describes Structural Protection Units (SPUs) as "... consisting of sprinkler systems specifically designed to defend structures, create a “humidity bubble” (streams of water) around structures that moisten roofs and other surfaces. This application of water can be effective in extinguishing airborne sparks and embers from wildfire. Structure Protection Units are often deployed as a precautionary measure to dampen roofs and areas around structures. They are most effective if used in conjunction with properties that have applied FireSmart standard. In addition to setting up a humidity bubble around the structure, crews can use the hoses and sprinklers to set up a “wet line” to slow or stop an advancing ground fire." #Nevertooearlytoprepare #PrinceGeorgeLawyers
Today we got the keys to our brand new structural protection unit (SPU) thanks to Miracle Theatre! Mayor Yu, City councillors, and staff gathered alongside Miracle Theatre’s Ted Price and Anne Laughlin this afternoon to officially unveil the new unit. Prince George is now better prepared for wildfire, thanks to the $180,000 donation which was made possible through ticket sales for Miracle Theatre's 2024 production. The SPU will remain in Prince George and is on standby for the community. The SPU has been aptly named “Miracle”. Miracle Theatre's next production will support the Prince George Seniors’ Emergency Fund which will be under the trusteeship of the Prince George Community Foundation.
