Gamification in recruiting: How and why to give it a shot for HR's. Everybody’s tired of the old hiring process, so we’re looking for creative ways to match candidates with jobs. I have started experimenting during the interview process by inviting candidates to spend some time in a room, working together to solve a mystery or puzzle. Same game, different hiring stages- To start using gamification in hiring, determine at what stage you’ll ask candidates to play games. Usually, gamification will be more useful in the ‘job application’ and ‘assessment’ hiring stages. Games can replace application forms- Instead of asking candidates to upload their resume and their cover letter and answer a bunch of qualifying questions, you could ask them to play a game. This has several advantages: - Those candidates who complete the game are clearly the most motivated - You can more easily evaluate people without much experience - You can evaluate people who have diverse experience - You can engage candidates Games can help you evaluate candidates- Games could complement (or even replace) the assessment stage. Instead of asking candidates to complete assignments or answer multiple test questions, you can ask them to play an online game for a few minutes. These games can: - Help you build diverse teams. Games are the same for everybody and they evaluate specific job-related skills. This means that they can help you screen candidates more objectively than pre-employment tests (such as personality tests) which can disadvantage many people (e.g. introverts) and whose ability to predict job performance is dubious. - Reduce time to hire. Tests or assignments take several days for candidates to complete and you should also factor in lost time from back-and-forth emails for clarifications. Conversely, a game takes only minutes to play and the results are sent automatically. This blog post about gamification during the hiring process has me thinking that we need a white-collar, NFL/NBA style combine for office jobs. Give me high-definition and close up footage of an applicant's perspiration and shaky hands during the words-per-minute keyboarding test. I want to see how quickly someone can figure out how to set up a new coffee maker in a breakroom and brew a vat for their teammates (shoutout to Jason Donnell in ClockShark's Chico office for being the only one capable of fueling our caffeine addiction for the longest time!) How about the printer-jam decathlon? A timed event where candidates must unjam the office printer, remove that annoying piece of paper stuck in the tray, and get it working again - all while maintaining a calm demeanor and low decibels to not disturb co-workers who are on the phones and, ya know, actually working. And the undisputed main event made for primetime Zoom viewing, cubicle parkour! An obstacle course that involves leaping over boxes, shimmying through tight spaces and dodging office supplies as candidates race to deliver non-urgent memos from one side of the office maze to the other. The winners of the white-collar combine would undoubtedly demonstrate the grit and determination required to thrive in any workplace. Any other games that I missed? Drop your suggestions in the replies 😎

Gamification in Recruitment 🎮 As many of you know, I am a big fan of gaming (que Leanne laughing and Rachel encouraging me to buy new games! 😂 ) and so, adding it in to a recruitment process has always been something that has interested me. I must admit, I "played" my first game back in 2018, when a company told me that could understand my behaviours based on my responses in the game, and well, I was impressed, since then it has come on leaps and bounds! But I know so many people will ask why put gaming in recruitment. Simple! 😎 ✔ Enhanced Candidate Engagement: Keep candidates interested and motivated throughout the application process. ✔Better Skill Assessment: Evaluate candidates' abilities in realistic, job-related scenarios. ✔Improved Employer Branding: Showcase your company's culture and values, making you stand out to top talent. ✔Reduced Bias: Focus on objective performance metrics, reducing unconscious bias in hiring decisions. ✔Attracting Top Talent: Provide a unique application experience that draws in exceptional candidates. Examples of gamification include online challenges, virtual simulations, interactive quizzes, and reward systems that recognise candidates' achievements. This innovative approach can revolutionise your hiring process and set you apart in the market! This article was a great read and it covers examples from leading companies like Google and Siemens that use games and competitions as part of their talent acquisition strategies. https://lnkd.in/ewEQ4ZJD #Gamification #Recruitment #Hiring #TalentAcquisition #HR #Innovation #CandidateExperience #EmployerBranding #RecruitmentTrends #FutureOfWork

Game on in Recruitment! Imagine transforming the mundane into the extraordinary. That's exactly what gamification in recruitment does. By infusing the hiring process with game-like elements, companies are not just filling positions; they're engaging candidates in a way that's memorable, interactive, and downright fun. But here's the twist: It's not just about making recruitment enjoyable. Gamification taps into deep-rooted psychology. It leverages the human love for challenges, rewards, and recognition, turning the job search into a journey of achievement and feedback. This approach can reveal a candidate's skills, problem-solving abilities, and cultural fit in ways traditional methods can't. Consider the possibilities: - A puzzle that tests strategic thinking. - A virtual reality scenario that simulates real job challenges. - Leaderboards that foster healthy competition among applicants. This isn't just innovation; it's a revolution in attracting top talent. Candidates get to experience the company culture firsthand, while employers gain insights beyond the resume. But here's the question: Is your organization ready to play? Engage, interact, and innovate. Let's discuss how gamification can transform your recruitment strategy. Share your thoughts below!
