Our new review article: https://lnkd.in/g8ybSvsb, also known as "forever chemicals," are harmful substances that stay in water and soil for a long time. They don’t break down easily and can even stay in our bodies for years. With over 15,000 types of PFAS out there, they are causing problems for the environment and our health, including cancer risks. The good news? Scientists and engineers are working hard to create eco-friendly solutions to remove PFAS. An effective method is bioremediation, which uses natural things like bacteria, plants, and algae to clean up PFAS in water and soil. Here’s what we’ve learned: 1️⃣ Microorganisms break down PFAS, but they need the right environment. 2️⃣ Long-chain PFAS stick to plant roots because they’re super hydrophobic (water-repelling). 3️⃣ Algae and bacteria working together can remove PFAS better than on their own! We’re still learning, but these discoveries show that natural processes can help us clean up PFAS and protect the environment. 💡 Let’s spread the word and keep working on solutions for a cleaner, safer world! #PFAS #CleanWater #EcoFriendlySolutions #ProtectThePlanet #ScienceInAction Congratulations to Ayushman Bhattacharya, Sunith V., Jesna Fathima, Pritha Chatterjee

It’s raining ‘forever chemicals’ in Miami! 😳 A recent study shows alarming levels of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in Miami’s rainwater. Known as “forever chemicals” due to their persistence in the environment, PFAS pose serious health risks, from endocrine disruption to cancer. This finding raises critical concerns about the broader impacts on water quality, public health, and the environment. This underscores the urgency of innovative PFAS remediation strategies to protect water systems and communities. #Sustainability #WaterQuality #EnvironmentalHealth #PFAS #ForeverChemicals #InnovationInWater

I am excited to share our recently published review article titled "𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗙𝗔𝗦-𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿" This study delves into the sources and impacts of PFAS, exploring their properties, classification, and environmental fate and transport. It offers a comprehensive analysis of bioremediation strategies, degradation pathways, and microbial dynamics under varying PFAS exposure levels and environmental conditions. Furthermore, it examines post-treatment opportunities and outlines future research directions, delivering critical insights for advancing sustainable PFAS remediation solutions.
