In recognition of Veterans Appreciation and Military Families Month, SALUTE, our employee community in support of veterans, active duty, and military families, honored our nation’s heroes through programming centered around the theme “Back to Basics.” This month, SALUTE hosted a physical training challenge, a military branch expo, a visit to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arlington National Cemetery, and a panel discussion on veteran hiring and retention. To close out the month, meet Product Enablement Team Lead, Jennifer R. McKinney! Since joining the team, Jen has been integral in finding ways to give back to the veteran community through her work with SALUTE. When asked who inspires her, Jen said, “My dad inspires me. A Vietnam Veteran, he spent two tours and came home to the abuse of the time. He didn’t talk much about his experience until the last few years, but it drove his work ethic, empathy, and compassion. He spent a career in journalism as a newspaperman covering some of the most impactful stories in our hometown, resulting in several awards for his stories.” Learn more about Jen and stay tuned for more features of leaders within our community!

Midweek Reflection: Sustaining the Spirit of Armed Forces Week As we reach the midpoint of Armed Forces Week, it's an ideal moment to reflect on the incredible stories and inspiring events we have witnessed. The past few days have been filled with heartfelt tributes, vibrant parades, and meaningful conversations that have deepened our appreciation for the men and women who serve in the British Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force. Today, let's focus on the ongoing support and recognition our Armed Forces community needs and deserves. Many service members transition from military to civilian life, bringing invaluable skills and experiences. However, this transition can be challenging and requires a robust support network. As we celebrate Armed Forces Week, we must consider how we can contribute to this support. From offering employment opportunities to providing mental health resources and fostering community integration, there are numerous ways we can make a tangible difference in the lives of our veterans and active-duty personnel. Let's use today as a call to action. Reach out to local veterans' organisations, volunteer your time, or express gratitude to a service member you know. By continuing to engage and support, we ensure that the spirit of Armed Forces Week extends beyond these seven days, creating a lasting impact. Together, we can build a future where every Armed Forces member feels valued and supported long after their service has ended.

I am excited to share our new paper, published today in NAM Perspectives: https://lnkd.in/edh_ySYZ Military service shapes health in profound ways—both positive and negative. Yet, half of U.S. veterans as well as those serving in the National Guard and Reserve receive care in civilian systems where their military history often goes undocumented. A new NAM Perspectives commentary highlights the urgent need to recognize military service as a social determinant of health to improve outcomes. Finished a great book that tracks the impact that military culture and funding have in what we, as a military, do and how we do it on morale and service. Corie Weathers, LPC, NCC, BCC did a heavy lift, walking through the 20th and 21st century military culture and how different generations perceive recruiting, relationships, and service among other things). Worth the read to, not only understand the culture, but develop a way to listen and engage current culture. My biggest lesson was, "how do we develop conversation with others, not use the answers we were given that may stop a conversation in it's tracks?" If you care for servicemembers (or veterans/ retirees) in any way, this book is worth picking up!

In honor of Veteran's Day, our facilitator of the employee resource group Coalition Veterans, Blake Feldman, shared his experience transitioning from the military to a civilian workforce. "While the imagery of home, family, and friends can be joyous, there’s also a sense of deep loss as a veteran learns to deal with the fact that their military service is only a chapter in the book of their whole life." Read the full Q&A to learn how employers can improve the transition for veterans and how we can overcome challenges that result from unconscious bias: https://bit.ly/4emneJO

#SAICproud of this post by my CEO on Military Family Appreciation Month. Check out the post below:
As the daughter of a career US Army General, #MilitaryFamilyAppreciationMonth holds profound meaning for me. Our family's journey taught me firsthand what it means to serve. Those lessons of sacrifice, resilience, and pride continue to shape who I am and how we approach #MilitaryFamily support at SAIC. We understand the pride, the sacrifices, and the resilience it takes to serve—because so many of us have lived it – either ourselves or through a loved-one. With #veterans comprising 30% of our workforce, military families aren't just part of our community—they're at the heart of who we are. To all military families: your strength, sacrifice, and unwavering support make America's defense possible.

Honoring Service and Embracing Alignment 🇺🇸 Today, we honor Veterans Day, a moment to reflect on service, commitment, and resilience. I come from a family deeply rooted in military service, and this day is a powerful reminder of the dedication that goes into every choice we make. Thank you to all who have served and to those who continue to serve. 🔢 It’s also 11/11, a day recognized in numerology as a portal for alignment, vision, and transformation. The energy of 11/11 invites us to pause and reflect: How can we bring more alignment to our lives and businesses? 💭 Reflection: Take a moment today to ask yourself, “How can my work serve not just my goals, but also my community?” By grounding our purpose in service, we create businesses that don’t just thrive—they uplift others, too. #VeteransDay #AlignedBusiness #ServiceAndPurpose #1111Energy

What is everyone's thoughts on a monthly Q&A panel with folks who have separated and/or retired from the military. It would be a way for anyone that's still serving to get insight. Thoughts?!
