As 2025 is off to the races, I was hit with three different recruiters' cold outreach this week telling me that I should look at a particular position that would interest me based on the "research" they had done on my LinkedIn profile. (Clearly, they are using Scripts/Bots/AI.) One was for an entry-level marketing job, one was for a sales rep position in an industry where I've never worked, and one was for an executive assistant job to a Chief Marketing Officer. The only connection I could make was that all three positions were in the Atlanta area where I live. Is anyone else getting carpet-bombed with this kind of misguided recruitment spam? Is my response message below too harsh? I guess I better update my LinkedIn profile. :-) "Hi (Insert Recruiter's Name), I am happy to connect on LinkedIn. However, I will tell you what I have said to multiple recruiters who use Bots, Scripts, or AI to conduct outreach. (Please know I mean this in the spirit of trying to help you.) I don't think the "research" your Bot/Script/AI did on my profile and background is working. There is nothing in my LinkedIn profile that would give it or you a reason to propose these positions to me personally. I'll certainly consider them for people in my network, but your outreach system is way off and needs to be recalibrated. I am only sending you this because these misfires can cause you to lose credibility. Please take this in the spirit it is intended. I hope you can use this feedback to improve your effectiveness."
Yes!!! I may borrow your language in the reply.
Great points Blake. Yep it’s ruining LinkedIn, some investors and folks think AI bots replace sales pros and recruiters, and even engineers. The pendulum will swing back but it may be someone other than Microsoft who capitalizes on a trustworthy platform. Technology and AI has its place to enable scale, but people will decide when they’ve had enough. Then alternative platforms will win.
I am getting carpet-bombed as well and they are all over the map. Most of mine are at least somewhat industry related, but the bots need a tune up! I hope you are well.
For such jobs which need analysis & thinking, AI still has a long long way to go….
I get this stuff all the time but I don't have your patience... #delete
