🩺 SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATION 🔬 A recent The Lancet Group Diabetes & Endocrinology article proposes a new definition for obesity, distinguishing clinical obesity—a chronic disease caused by excess adiposity impairing organ function—from preclinical obesity, where excess fat is present but without organ dysfunction, though it increases the risk of future complications. 🔍 This redefinition highlights the limitations of BMI alone as a diagnostic tool and advocates for additional measures such as waist circumference or the waist-to-height ratio. As a CRO, we recognize the significance of this new classification in enhancing obesity management and refining our clinical research strategies accordingly.
