🇫🇷 Following the World Lottery Association (WLA) Summit in Paris last week, I'm still working through follow-ups from the 50+ 🤩 great connections I made there. If I haven’t reached out yet, rest assured I’ll be in touch shortly 🙏
💡 Here are some takeaways from my first lottery-focused event:
📊 Lottery's Market Scale. Lottery is the second-largest gambling vertical, nearly double the size of sports betting, only surpassed by casinos in terms of market size.
📄 Standards and Compliance. Lotteries maintain the highest levels of standards and compliance. However, on the flip side, the industry often lags in adopting modern technologies and products. Decision-making can be slow, and many managers rely heavily on third-party consultants for expertise, further lengthening processes. Many lotteries fall behind private gambling companies in technology and product development.
🌪 The Wind of Change. Encouragingly, the executives I spoke with are eager to chabnge and innovate - integrating cutting-edge technologies, AI-driven products, and offering premium experiences. It's coming!
🌳 Social Responsibility. The industry's most admirable quality lies in its unmatched commitment to social responsibility. This is the only gambling sector where revenue growth isn’t the primary objective; rather, it's genuinely committed to ensuring players don’t cross the line into addiction.
🤔 Event Size and Impact. With fewer than 50 booths, the event was surprisingly modest for such a large industry. This reflects how the #WLS2024 event may be heavily underrated despite its attendee caliber. Great classy atmosphere, most of the people i met were C-level executives and Board Members.
