Every year, the Doolan Award process sees our expert judges visit the shortlisted buildings, to carefully assess each project's architectural integrity, usability and context, delivery and execution, and sustainability. Our 2024 Doolan Award judging panel included David Kohn of David Kohn Architects, author and journalist Gabriella Bennett and RIAS President Karen Anderson. Here they share their reflections and insights on this year's winning building - John McAslan + Partners' refurbishment of the Burrell Collection: "The Burrell Collection is an outstanding example of problem-solving and future-proofing. [It has] created a better spatial experience...and significantly increased the area available to the public." "An innovative basement level...and the repositioned entrance makes walking in feel more intimate, as if you are drawn into the heart of the building." "More broadly, the Burrell Collection makes a bold declaration about the role of architecture - a renewed confidence and belief in it - at a time when Glasgow and Scotland’s creative and cultural industries are in peril. Architecture Vogue Magazine are excited to reintroduce the work of Brock Carmichael, and to share with you their latest project - Liverpool’s King Edward Triangle Brock Carmichael appointed masterplan architects by KEIE Limited and Beetham Organisation on the King Edward Triangle project. ‎Working with planner Pegasus Group, Brock Carmichael will draft the masterplan for the future tall buildings cluster from TJ Morris and Beetham. The 5.7-acre King Edward Triangle sits between King Edward Street, Bath Street, and Paisley Street by the Liverpool waterfront. RIBA has named the UK's best buildings of 2024... 👀 The annual National Awards established in 1966, aims to celebrate the country's best new buildings and give insight into its architectural design and social trends. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) announced 26 winners this year, including projects designed by NIALL MCLAUGHLIN ARCHITECTS LTD, Waugh Thistleton Architects and WilkinsonEyre. Projects ranged in scale from rural houses and restorations to major projects like London's Kings Cross masterplan and Elizabeth Line railway. "The sheer breadth of work is quite astounding, with large infrastructure schemes sitting alongside high-quality detailed smaller projects," said RIBA president Muyiwa Oki PRIBA. "This is a testament to the standard of architecture in the UK right now, as we maintain a sense of ambition and consider how design must evolve to meet future needs." Architectural “T3” Leadership! Frank Lloyd Wright b. OTD 1867.  America’s most famous architect.
