Having successfully built a GCC in India, I’d like to share some insights and the complete assistance process that made this journey possible. **1. Strategic Planning:** Every successful GCC starts with a well-defined strategy. This involves understanding the organizational goals, market potential, and long-term vision. For us, this meant extensive market research, stakeholder engagement, and aligning our GCC objectives with the company's global strategy. **2. Location Selection:** India, with its diverse talent pool and favorable business environment, stood out as the ideal location. Choosing the right city was crucial—considering factors such as infrastructure, talent availability, and cost efficiency. We chose New Delhi for its vibrant business ecosystem and connectivity. **3. Talent Acquisition:** Hiring the right talent is at the heart of any successful GCC. We focused on attracting top talent through partnerships with local universities, recruitment drives, and leveraging our network. Building a strong employer brand in the region was key to our success. **4. Infrastructure Setup:** Setting up the physical and digital infrastructure was a critical step. GCCs Landscape in India Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India have become a global destination for primary operations in organizations from diverse sectors. The IT landscape in India has transformed from conventional IT outsourcing centre, assisting HQs to a preferred location for strategic powerhouses, driving key functions like R&D, innovation, digital transformation across diverse industries like manufacturing, banking, healthcare, and automotive. What’s behind this shift? Multiple factors have led to this transformation. Big talent pool being among the major factors, other factors included robust infrastructure, multiple service partners, government policies, economic conditions, technology trends and rise of Indian leadership at global positions. This led to over 1200 GICs and captives in India in 2020, and the number surpassed 1700 GCCs till date. During COVID pandemic, Indian GCCs demonstrated resilience, when the country was under lockdown and the world was facing disruptions in almost every vertical. Most operations in global firms shifted to remote working setups and Business Continuity Plans were being redesigned to keep businesses up and running against the odds. At such time, Indian GCCs and GICs helped global firms sail through the situation by supporting in transitioning their operations smoothly, training employees to adapt more digital skills and collaborating with them to enable communication and support in remote working setup. They also focussed their BCPs on ensuring availability of right infrastructure, devices and Wi-fi networks to work smoothly, as well as upgrading the cybersecurity and anti-virus software to improve risk management. Consulting giants in GCC league With rising demand for IT service companies in GCCs, Big 4 firms like EY, PWC, also decided to join the race, starting with their own work portfolio of project management, risk assessment and advisory, cyber security,etc. However, to avoid arising conflicts of interest, Big 4s segregated their audit clientele from GCC clients to maintain client's information privacy. Regulatory bodies formed GCC forums to help GCC businesses thrive, drive technology trends to shape future of GCCs in India. Zinnov also participated as consulting partner. As digital landscape continues to evolve, GCCs are increasing their collaboration with specialized technology vendors in robotics, AI and traditional service providers to stay ahead in competition. The demand for such collaboration and outsourcing of cloud infrastructure tech is set to rise further to 77% in near future, positioning India at the forefront of innovation.
