Many counties in Southwest Virginia have received significant damages because of Helene. Many are asking how they can help and are wanting to specifically assist farmers in need. Extension Agents in Southwest Virginia are working to assess farmer needs and the availability of donations. If you have anyone interested in donating, Virginia Cooperative Extension is working to coordinate those efforts. We are trying to get materials where they are needed. VCE is working with the VIRGINIA CATTLEMENS ASSOCIATION on accepting financial donations and hope to have that set up soon. SCI REMC Operation RoundUp funded Pack Away Hunger with a $2,500 grant to help fund their John R. Wooden Middle School nutrition & hunger education meal pack project. Pack Away Hunger provided nutrition and hunger education to 170 students, all of whom were involved in meal packing too. “PAH’s Director of Events kept a meal count throughout the event. A final meal count of 42,120 was achieved before distributing the meals to the school’s food pantry as well as Churches in Mission” Media provided by Pack Away Hunger. The Operation RoundUp Program accumulates and disburses funds for charitable purposes to individuals, families, groups, and organizations located in the service area of South Central Indiana REMC. The source of funds is the REMC’s members who voluntarily participate.
