The deals, secured with major aircraft lessors, will see the A321neos delivered between 2026 and 2027. This move follows United’s removal of the 737 MAX 10 from its near-term fleet plan due to uncertainty around Boeing’s timeline for certification. The airline’s Q3 filing with the SEC revealed its efforts to optimize its balance sheet, leasing the A321neos as part of its strategy to ensure flexibility in fleet operations. United Airlines dropped its 10-Q for the first quarter that includes the significant orderbook changes the airline has made in response to the Boeing 737 Max 10 delays. United converted 110 (!!) Max 10s to Max 9s. Firm commitments for each type stood at 167 and 144, respectively, at the end of March. The letters of intent that United has signed with lessors for 35 Airbus A321neos with CFM International engines due in 2025-26 are not reflected in its fleet plan yet. In total, United expects roughly 100 narrowbody aircraft deliveries (A321neo, Max 8, and Max 9) annually from 2025-27, Chief Financial Officer Mike Leskinen said Wednesday. The airline will take 61 narrowbodies this year, significantly less than the contractual 183 planes. #airlines
