#AI and #marine conservationists are the perfect pair for matching and tracking whales in the wild.
In the first episode of Better Together, a series from Insider Studios in collaboration with the Toyota Crown Family, we meet the founders behind two marine conservationist groups: Happywhale, the largest crowdsourced database for identifying marine mammals, and Oceans Initiative, a Seattle-based nonprofit on a mission to protect marine life.

Thanks The Leprosy Mission Nepal for hosting The Leprosy Mission Australia's International Programs Manager @AndrewNewmarch and for all the learning about the SPROUTS project. 🌱
Working in 4 local communities endemic to leprosy in Nawalparasi and Nawalpur, Western Nepal, the project targets the Triple Zero Leprosy strategy using several different methods:
- Self-Help Groups: Persons impacted by leprosy, lymphatic filariasis and other disabilities are invited to join self-help groups that teach them business skills and health improvement knowledge. These groups will be supported to develop into business companies where they learn to independently manage the small group business including how to establish raw material suppliers to marketing strategies.
- School education: Working in schools to increase menstrual hygiene practices and awareness will improve the general health of students. The project will support students to understand how to manage and ensure cleanliness is maintained during menstruation. Targeted leprosy awareness through different mediums will also be used in schools to assess which types of presented information is the most memorable for students.
- Building capacity of local health workers: Core to increasing leprosy diagnosis, treatment and management, is the upskilling of health workers. The project will upskill workers and partner with them in leprosy active case finding activities.

The Strengthening Pathways for Economic Resilience through Sustainable Opportunities to Communities Project in Nepal project is supported by the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP). Thanks to your support and ANCP, these projects can help improve the well-being of people affected by leprosy and disability in Nepal.

👋 The Leprosy Mission Australia thanks for letting us borrow Andrew for the past week. We hope he had a productive visit meeting everyone involved in the SPROUTS Project, understanding more on the results of IMPACT, and taking in the sights at Sunwal.
The Unprepared Expedition
In 1911, two explorers, Roald Amundsen and Robert Falcon Scott, embarked on separate expeditions to be the first to reach the South Pole. Amundsen meticulously planned every detail: he chose experienced skiers, used well-suited sled dogs, and established supply depots along the route. In contrast, Scott's preparation was less thorough; he relied on untested motor sledges and ponies ill-suited for the polar climate.
Amundsen's team reached the South Pole first and returned safely. Scott's team arrived later, exhausted and ill-prepared for the harsh conditions. Tragically, they perished on the return journey.
This historical event underscores Benjamin Franklin's adage: "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."
Amundsen's success was a direct result of his meticulous preparation, while Scott's inadequate planning led to disaster.
Moral: Thorough preparation is essential for success, especially in challenging endeavors.

High noon at Newhaven (Ngalia-Warlpiri/Luritja Country)!
It’s a rare spectacle: Australia’s largest terrestrial venomous snake species, locked in combat.
If you’re lucky enough to witness this, you'll have front row seats for a while, as the Mulga snakes focus only on pushing each other's heads to the ground in a bid for dominance.
And we know what you may be thinking, but they're making war, not love.
The stakes are high—the loser must leave the area, while the victor claims the exclusive mating rights to local females.

Hope Shines Eternal in the City of Angels
Despite the devastating wildfires that have decimated Pacific Palisades and other numerous locations around Los Angeles, I awoke to a beautiful sunrise, the return of our birds, the signs in nature that say, "God is with us," and a little Token of Love donated to my LIttle Free Library.
I believe we can "rebuild, support each other, and thrive by responding to a CALL FOR ACTION."
If you are writers, volunteer to read books to adults and especially children at the temporary shelters set up by the Red Cross.
If you are skilled with ability to work with livestock, volunteer to work with the animals housed in city Equestrian centers.
If you are chiefs or restaurants, food trucks, donate food to the people housed in our temporary shelters.
If you are nurseries or gardeners, donate some beautiful potted plants to the local temporary shelters.
In your community and neighborhood, check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, and offer to get groceries, give them rides to health care appointments, offer each other hugs and encouragement when you see them outside.

- Wilderness Marraige Expeditons-
(Active Duty Military Members)
Chaplains spend their entire careers focused on one thing: serving those who serve.
From special operations teams to infantry units, and everyone in between, regardless of rank, branch of service, or job — everyone in the military has access to a chaplain.
Often misunderstood as preachers or watchdogs for battalion commanders, chaplains remain one of the most underutilized resources in our military. They are also some of its most unsung heroes.
One of my mentors and closest friends dedicated his life to being a chaplain. After nearly three decades of service, he recently retired — something his family hoped would mean more time with him. But, as they say, old habits die hard.
The image above, along with the two titles it represents, is perhaps his proudest achievement and most profound contribution to the military and its families.
Wilderness Marraige Expeditions, led by Brandon Harding for active-duty service members are something truly remarkable.
In the place often referred to as “the original church” — the wilderness — Brandon helps couples navigate personal and professional development using a toolkit he’s spent nearly 30 years perfecting. He’s guided thousands, devoting immeasurable hours to this mission.
Explaining what a Wilderness Marraige Expedition really is can be challenging. In my industry, we’d call it an “elevator pitch.”
Put simply, these expeditions are a chance to disconnect in order to reconnect. They offer time to explore the wilderness while engaging in meaningful self-reflection and shared growth.
Active-duty couples embark on a six-day wilderness expedition — with no leave or pay docked. It’s entirely free. The only requests: leave ranks at the door, use first names, and lock cell phones in the glove box before stepping into the unknown.
The rest — the learning, connecting, and growing — happens in the wild.
