One day in 1671, Christopher Wren observed three bricklayers on a scaffold, each working diligently but with differing postures and attitudes. When asked, “What are you doing?” the first bricklayer replied, “I’m a bricklayer. I’m working hard laying bricks to feed my family.” The second said, “I’m a builder. I’m building a wall.” But the third, the most productive and future leader of the group, answered with a gleam in his eye, “I’m a cathedral builder. I’m building a great cathedral to The Almighty.”
What can we learn from this story?
1. Your perspective shapes your reality. Think of the big picture.
2. It’s hard to be successful, and it’s hard to be broke. Choose your hard.
3. Opportunities are equal, but attitude and effort make the difference.
4. Vision drives motivation. Align your daily tasks with a greater purpose.
How do you view your work? Are you laying bricks, building walls, or constructing cathedrals?
