AssetMark rumored to be an “acquirer” of #TAMPs? Though they very recently purchased Morningstar (it has not closed) and may be on the hunt for more as an aggregator - https://lnkd.in/eqFrD6rc - as well as a recent article in FundFire - since still the vast majority of their clients are independent b/ds and hybrids not RIAs with HNW / UHNW clients. Historically they’ve been a good fit for clients with between $50k to $500k but they have plans to go up market and to do so they need a vision with more sophisticated product solutions inc. advanced tax mgmt. and overlay not just for third party strategies but actually a robust number of #individualequities, #fixedincome, #directindexing, #customizedSMAs, #models as well as #privatemarkets that are not an open #API band-aid but a fully integrated enterprise solution covering $50k to $30m clients esp. for firms, b/ds and custodians that do not have the will, intellectual capital, and or financials to directly build and run the following at scale: #UMA > #UMH > #UAP so instead they will rent / lease from AssetMark and like firms etc. However even with GTCR LLC backing to do this effectively and actually move the needle away from previous challenges and create actual operational alpha etc. will be expensive and challenging esp. the integration and there are not many firms and integrators (at scale) for a cheap price esp. when they know GTCR LLC is providing the initial equity and or debt. The players depending upon how ambitious may want more control, have poor fintech, not the right asset mix etc. or offer complimentary assets but it’s an asset dump (for scale) but operationally a cost cutting blood bath (inc. a significant loss potentially of intellectual capital - look no further than Envestnet, Inc and Charles Schwab). The theoretical players would be Orion / Envestnet, Inc / iCapital / CAIS / SMArtX Advisory Solutions / GeoWealth / SEI / InvestCloud, Inc. / Vestmark / Brookstone Capital Management etc. but some are too large to digest, not for sale, overvalued, have operational and or cultural challenges inc. mgmt., would not allow for nor have the ability to build the scale needed, have poor non-integrated fintech, not the right asset mix etc. Furthermore, AssetMark does not want the challenges with some that would paralyze their firm and existing clients. However, this is heading on a path (to a future) where there will be significant industry consolidation within both #publicmarket #TAMPs as well as #privatemarket ones (as well) to get to a more comprehensive, integrated and uniform solution that is built with a better client experience and outcomes that will cover clients from $50k to $50m etc. yet it will take vision, economics, intellectual capital, fintech, time etc. yet it’s coming. #assetmark #tamps #uma #uap #umh #morningstar #publicmarkets #privatemarkets #privateequity #fintech #orion #envestnet #cais #smartx #geowealth #sei #investcloud #vestmark #brookstone #gtcr #bain
