In 2024, Soldiers’ feedback on how to improve the Army’s network systems and command and control communications was essential to the service’s continuous transformation efforts. To get quality feedback, the Army incorporated new technology into operational exercises on a far larger scale than ever before to better evaluate the equipment’s effectiveness. Project Convergence (PC), the Army’s annual series of modernization experiments, was one of the biggest platforms for this initiative. In 2024, PC expanded in scope and scale, with more extensive participation by partner nations and other military branches and more experiments around the globe, including PC Pacific as part of Valiant Shield 24 and PC Europe as part of the Avenger Triad Exercise. Soldier feedback helps ensure that equipment is developed with practical applications in mind, so the Army can field the best possible technologies. This “soldier-centered design” ensures that the Soldiers who will ultimately use the equipment are part of the development process from the start. Soldier feedback informs industry representatives, researchers, and acquisition experts, helping to define the tools and capabilities needed to fight future wars. Soldiers now have more input in the development and selection of the Army’s next generation of weapons, equipment, and vehicles than at any point in history.
